At the 2016 World of Concrete show in Las Vegas, Honda has introduced a newly designed Cyclone Air Cleaner to be made available on select Honda GX Series commercial engine models. Select Honda GX160, GX200, GX270 and GX390 engines will be offered with the new air cleaner starting in 2017.

With a more compact design than the legacy air cleaner it will replace, the new Cyclone Air Cleaner fits more tightly within the overall shape of each GX engine model. The new, smaller design specifically targets OEM applications where reduced overall engine dimensions are critical. In addition, the new Cyclone Air Cleaner will offer the same superior filtration efficiency with a triple-cleaning chamber that will be particularly useful in commercial applications where the equipment operates in extremely dusty conditions.

“The Honda GX Series, our legendary family of commercial grade engines, provides durable power, fuel efficiency, and quiet operation for a host of demanding commercial, construction and rental applications,” said Scott Conner, senior vice president, Honda Power Equipment. “With the introduction of a new Cyclone Air Cleaner on select Honda GX engine models, customers can look forward to the same premium filtration performance in a more compact envelope – an ideal configuration for equipment that operates in rugged and dusty environments.”

The New Cyclone Air Cleaner: A Closer Look at Superior Performance, Compact Design

While the new Honda Cyclone Air Cleaner will deliver the same superior performance as the existing Cyclone Air Cleaner, its compact layout and design improves the fitment of the Honda GX160, GX200, GX270 and GX390 engines in a broad range of power equipment products.

The cleaner’s mesh screen is designed to effectively take in air, directing it to three tubular cyclone chambers. Each turbo fin-shaped entrance efficiently accelerates the air as it travels from top to bottom, forcing particulates from the air stream. This design allows dirt and debris to be trapped and removed prior to reaching the Foam Pre-Cleaner. The smallest particles are finally isolated and treated by a Pleated Air Filter – so that only clean air enters the engine. Due to this high particulate removal efficiency, Honda GX engines with the Cyclone Air Cleaner benefit from a maintenance interval that is three times longer than Honda engines with standard dual element air cleaners.

The Honda GX Engines Series: Fuel-Efficient Power for Commercial Applications

The Honda GX Series offers reliable, easy starting and fuel-efficient power for a variety of commercial applications including an array of rental equipment, construction / industrial equipment, agricultural equipment, water pumps and pressure washers.

Two of the larger Honda GX Series engines, the GX270 and GX390, will feature the Cyclone Air Cleaner as part of their rugged OHV design that helps ensure a high level of durability and reliability for construction and rental market applications. In 2010, Honda GX270 and GX390 engines were redesigned to be exceptionally fuel efficient and also feature a number of design elements for improved power output, achieved via an advanced combustion chamber design, the implementation of variable ignition timing, and an increased compression ratio. In addition to high fuel efficiency, these GX engines meet CARB and EPA exhaust emission regulations without the use of a catalyst.

Two Honda mid-sized GX engines, the GX160 and the GX200, also will be offered with the new Cyclone Air Cleaner. These single-cylinder, horizontal-shaft models meet current EPA Phase 3 exhaust and evaporative emissions standards. In 2011, these models were redesigned to include features that help improve their fuel efficiency, reliability and durability including a carburetor chamber coating, an advanced recoil rope design, and a carburetor filter.
