Genie's new High Float and TraX booms tread lightly on soft ground

Designed to perform in sensitive ground conditions, such as sand and turf, Genie High Float (HF) and TraX boom lifts offer productive machine performance on soft or delicate surfaces. To meet market demand, new models have been added to the Genie product lineup, including the Genie Z-45 HF, S-40 HF, S-45 HF, S-60 HF and S-65 HF booms, as well as the Genie S-40 TraX, S-45 TraX, S-60 TraX and S-65 TraX machines. DEUTZ, Sany plan joint venture in Chinese city

Joint venture partners SANY and DEUTZ AG have signed an agreement with representatives of the government of Changsha during the foundation stone laying ceremony at the production site in Changsha. DEUTZ AG and SANY, China's largest construction equipment manufacturer, had already signed the agreement to establish a joint venture in June this year. The aim of the two companies is to build a factory to produce high-performance engines in the province of Hunan. 

Operator training is not the finish line, it’s the starting point

Many users and owners of mobile elevating work platforms (MEWPs, formerly known as AWPs) believe that operator training is the ultimate goal of a safe-use program. They think that when personnel complete operator training, they immediately know everything required to ensure safe MEWP operations. In fact, operator training is now clearly identified as only one component in a comprehensive MEWP-specific safe-use program, which is the fundamental responsibility of the new ANSI A92.22 Safe Use standard, which goes into effect this December.

Fifty years of retread manufacturing by Bridgestone marked at Bandag plant

Bridgestone Americas, Inc., a subsidiary of Bridgestone Corporation, the world's largest tire and rubber company, announced its Bandag retread manufacturing plant in Oxford, North Carolina celebrated 50 years of production on Sept. 26, 2019. Bandag is Bridgestone's business unit dedicated to the research, development and manufacturing of premium retread tires. The Bandag plant in Oxford began manufacturing tread rubber and retreading materials in 1969 and continues to play a vital role in the local community today by employing nearly 200 people. Bridgestone hosted a lunch banquet and tour of the facility on Sept. 26 to mark the important milestone.

Canadian crane company credits Liebherr cranes for quality work

The LaPrairie group of companies, based in Western Canada, recently invested in nine new Liebherr machines. For their businesses in the construction and mining industry as well as in the oil and gas sector, especially, the new Rough Terrain cranes are important add-ons to the fleet. The LRT cranes are used in long-term jobs to free the existing fleet of All-Terrain cranes for their typical taxi crane jobs. Rough Terrain cranes are usually requested by LaPrairie's customers without crane drivers. Therefore the ease-of-use and safety of crane and operator were some of the decisive arguments during the selection process for the Rough Terrain Cranes.

Grove crane teams up with helicopter to install antenna on radio tower

Digging and Rigging, a crane and rigging company based out of Mount Airy, Maryland, deployed a Grove TMS500-2 truck crane to assist a helicopter with the installation of a new radio tower in Clear Spring, Maryland. The helicopter air-lifted the 5-USt tower antenna while the truck crane helped tail it until it was in a complete vertical position.

John Deere's new felling heads collect larger, tighter bunches

Today John Deere has added the FS50/FR50 Felling Heads to its felling head lineup. The FS50/FR50 Felling Heads build upon the successful qualities of previous models for increased productivity, range and visibility. The new felling heads are compatible with the 800 and 900M-Series Tracked Feller Bunchers and feature in 30-degree and 310-degree wrist configurations respectively.

Timken acquires BEKA Lubrication

The Timken Company has reached an agreement to acquire BEKA Lubrication for approximately $165 million. The company serves a diverse range of industrial sectors including wind, food and beverage, rail, on- and off-highway and other process industries. BEKA sales are expected to be around $135 million for the full year 2019.

Xylem's new Godwin S Series smart pumps feature new generation of cloud-based Field Smart Technology

As digital technologies continue to produce powerful value for water managers and the communities they serve, global water technology company Xylem Inc has launched the new Godwin NC100S and CD100S Dri-Prime dewatering pumps, the third and fourth pumps in the Godwin S Series of smart pumps. Equipped with interchangeable, application-specific impellers and a new generation of cloud-based Field Smart Technology, these new 4-inch surface-mounted centrifugal pumps deliver enhanced levels of control and flexibility for the toughest dewatering applications. While each is ideal for the application described below, the pumps enable the operator to switch from a NC100S to a CD100S, and vice versa, due to the interchangeable impellers on both models, thereby providing a ‘two in one' solution for each pump to increase the application range and removing the need to invest in multiple fleet models.

New utility package from Cemen Tech to debut at ICUEE

Cemen Tech is slated to unveil an all-new Utility Package for its volumetric concrete mixers at ICUEE 2019. Specially designed for utility contractors with a need for standard concrete, flowable fill or specialty mixes, the new Utility Package includes deluxe features and capabilities such as the ability to fill micro-trenches, pour multiple type of concrete or grout with the same unit, and record and store all production information from the field.   

Addition of Demag crane nearly doubles Superior Cranes lifting capacity

Superior Cranes, Inc. of Rockingham, N.C., recently purchased the 1,375 USt (1,250 t) capacity class Demag CC 6800-1 crawler crane for its operations in the United States. With few crawler cranes in this class size operating in North America, the acquisition gives the company an advantage with lifting opportunities requiring specialized high-lift capacities.

Viewpoint unveils analytics package for One Construction Management Suite

Viewpoint, a Trimble Company, unveiled a data platform providing self-service reporting and predictive analytical capabilities to contractors. Called Viewpoint Analytics, the solution will enable contractors to track operational and financial performance of their projects, processes, people and ultimately, their business. Previewed at the Viewpoint Collaborate Conference in Portland, Ore., the platform uses real-time information entered from the field to analyze projects and help clients achieve on-time, on-budget performance.

New National Crane boom truck from Manitowoc features long boom, high capacity

The Manitowoc Company has launched the NBT60L, the latest addition to its National Crane boom truck product line. This 60 USt product offering now features the longest boom length in its tonnage class with 151 feet of main boom and a maximum main boom height of 161 feet. It can be equipped with an optional 36 foot off-settable lattice jib that reaches a 196 foot maximum tip height, providing a  combination of exceptional capacity and reach.

JCB's first electric mini excavator now available in North America

JCB's 19C-1E, the company's first fully electric mini excavator, is now available in the United States and Canada. The 2-ton (1.9-tonne) 19C-1E is ideally suited to construction and excavation applications within enclosed or urban jobsites, or noise- and emissions-sensitive environments such as hospitals and schools. It offers the same power as JCB's diesel-powered 19C excavator yet produces zero exhaust emissions and one-fifth of the noise. 

Topcon unveils new technology offerings for BIM at INTERGEO

Topcon Positioning Group will present solutions for vertical construction at INTERGEO 2019. Additions to the portfolio include availability of the new scanning robotic total station with an innovative construction verification workflow; a new 3D construction digital layout instrument; heads-up display glasses for total stations; and software and field controller enhancements improving functionality for a range of BIM applications and integrations.
