Construction skilled trades have high job satisfaction levels, but recruitment is a challenge

Ontario's construction industry is facing labour supply issues despite the tremendous opportunities that await young people across a wide spectrum of trades. These opportunities will improve for two major reasons: (1) the wave of retirements that is anticipated over the next decade, and (2) the expectation that construction activity will increase due to the emphasis on infrastructure from Ottawa and Queen's Park, with budgets due this spring.  

Volvo CE celebrates International Women's Day

To mark International Women's Day, Melker Jernberg, President of  Volvo Construction Equipment, has laid down the challenge of exceeding the company's target of having 25% female leaders by 2025. This is because he believes that diversity is a major contributor to the company's success and it will give Volvo CE a competitive advantage in the construction industry. "Generally speaking, the construction industry is not as diverse as it should be," says Melker. "I strongly believe that the more diverse the company, the better it is. Diversity brings huge advantages as different people bring different perspectives. That's why I am challenging our employees to go even further and help us exceed our target of having 25% female leaders at Volvo CE by 2025. Link Manufacturing completes family of self-steer auxiliary suspensions

K-Tec’s new Tricerabox 3-point hitch box blade

K-Tec Earthmovers have released a new accessory for 500+HP tractors to enhance earthmoving operations. The K-Tec Tricerabox is a 14' wide box blade that is mounted to the 3-point hitch on the rear of a tractor. The three functions of the Tricerabox include the leveling blade pulling material forward, ripper teeth sinking down into the soil, and blade backwards for pushing dozing material. The blade is ideal for leveling out uneven cut zones, to prepare a productive loading area for enhanced scraper productivity. It has seven ground ripper shanks that are hydraulically operated to lower and engage the ground for ripping up hard soil or aerating wet jobsites.

Liebherr to introduce six Generation 8 crawler excavators in 2019

Starting in January 2019, Liebherr will launch the completely new Generation 8 crawler excavators for earthmoving. For the initial launch period the Generation 8 excavators will include six models: R 922, R 924, R 926, R 930, R 934 and the R 938. The R 922 and R 924 will be available for highly regulated countries whereas the four next models will be available with engine options for highly regulated and lower-regulated countries.
