The Open-S Alliance, the joint initiative to create an open standard for fully automatic quick couplers for excavators, has welcomed the Kinshofer Group as a member of the organization. The goal of the Open-S standard is to give machine operators and contractors the freedom to combine machine couplers, tiltrotators, and tools from manufacturers that are in compliance with the standard, and to promote continued technological development.
Kinshofer is a manufacturer of attachments for truck cranes and excavators, as well as rotators, tiltrotators, and rotary actuators, with headquarters in Holzkirchen, Germany. The company joins the Open-S Alliance as an associate member.
"Kinshofer is pleased to join this alliance. Opening up Kinshofer's product offering to the Open-S standard will be welcomed by our customers as it removes boundaries and limitations of using a wide variety of tools from various manufacturers on one and the same carrier. Kinshofer will play an active role to support Open-S Alliance efforts to expand the range of hydraulic couplers globally," says Thomas Friedrich, CEO of the Kinshofer Group.
In the industry as a whole, the demand for productivity is constantly rising and in many applications the need for a quick change of work tools is continuous, therefore fully automatic quick couplers are becoming increasingly popular. The Open-S Alliance strives to give machine owners and contractors the freedom to combine quick couplers, tiltrotators, and work tools from different manufacturers following the Open-S standard. The open interface defines hydraulic couplers and ensures that a combination of products from different manufacturers will not in any way interfere with or alter the safety solution of each individual product. The open standard safeguards users from being locked into a company-specific solution and instead selecting the solution that best solves the individual needs.
"All members of Open-S share a belief that machine owners and contractors should have the freedom to choose what solution to buy. The Open-S Alliance welcomes all manufacturers in the industry who believe in the benefits of a common standard and I am happy to welcome Kinshofer as a new member," says Anders Jonsson, chairman of the board of Open-S Alliance AB.
The number of members of the Open-S Alliance is growing as more and more companies come to the conclusion that the open standard is good for the industry. There are currently several ongoing discussions with companies applying for membership.
