Caterpillar will display four electric machine prototypes, including battery prototypes, at bauma 2022 from October 24 to 30 in Munich, Germany.

Caterpillar is focused on delivering solutions to help users achieve their sustainability goals by geography, jobsite, and specific user needs, says the company. The battery-electric machine prototypes include the 301.9 mini excavator, the 320 medium excavator, the 950 GC medium wheel loader, and the 906 compact wheel loader. The machines are powered by Caterpillar battery prototypes and include an onboard AC charger. Caterpillar also plans to offer an offboard DC fast charging option.

Tony Fassino, president of the Construction Industries Group, says that it's important to meet users on their sustainability goals with a variety of machines and solutions that use renewable fuels or help increase fuel efficiency.

The Caterpillar-designed batteries in these machines will also be available to power other industrial applications. Built using Caterpillar technology, the lithium-ion battery range features a modular design that offers flexible configurations across multiple applications. The batteries are engineered to be scalable to industry and user performance needs and maximize sustainability throughout their life cycle, including recycling and reuse at the end of life.

The 301.9 mini excavator and 906 compact wheel loader are expected to be the first commercially available models.
