Volvo Trucks to demonstrate Volvo VNR electric models in 2019 and commercialize in 2020

Volvo Trucks will begin in 2019 demonstrating the Volvo VNR Electric in California-based distribution, regional-haul, and drayage operations. Volvo Trucks will commercialize the VNR Electric in 2020. The Volvo VNR Electric will be based on fully-electric powertrain technology currently being used in the Volvo FE Electric, which Volvo Trucks presented in May and will begin selling in Europe in 2019.

Volvo Trucks will introduce all-electric Volvo VNR regional-haul demonstrators in California next year, operating in distribution, regional-haul and drayage operations. Sales of the VNR Electric in North America will begin in 2020.

Volvo Trucks provides autonomous transport solution to Brønnøy Kalk AS

Volvo Trucks has just signed a landmark agreement with Brønnøy Kalk AS in Norway to provide its first commercial autonomous solution transporting limestone from an open pit mine to a nearby port.

The solution for Brønnøy Kalk AS consists of limestone being transported by six autonomous Volvo FH trucks on a five kilometer stretch through tunnels between the mine itself and the crusher. Tests of this solution have been carried out successfully and will continue throughout 2018 to become fully operational by the end of 2019.

Volvo Trucks North America has entered into a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Trimble Transportation Enterprise (formerly TMW Systems) to develop future transportation management and fleet maintenance products and services. The proposed collaboration leverages Volvo's on-board connectivity hardware to offer solutions that help fleets run their businesses more effectively, bringing critical uptime information into the Trimble platform. Volvo made the announcement this week at the American Trucking Associations Management Conference & Exhibition in Austin, Texas.
