These inverter generators – the 1,650 watt R1700i, 3,200 watt RG3200iS and 4,300 watt RG4300iS – utilize advanced inverter technology that significantly reduces running sound. Engines are run at a slower speed for low power use and automatically increase speed as more electrical power is required. The R1700i is powered by Subaru’s EH09-2 OHV (overhead valve) gasoline engine, while the RG3200iS and RG4300iS models are powered by Subaru’s EX OHC (overhead cam) gasoline engines.
