John Deere has added its two largest dozers to the P-Tier line. The 950 P-Tier and 1050 P-Tier - formerly the 950K and 1050K — feature improved visibility, safety, and power compared to previous machines.
The 950 P-Tier is the largest Power-Angle-Tilt (PAT) dozer from John Deere, and features SmartGrade, Deere's factory-integrated mastless 3D grade control. John Deere's 950 model delivers an operating weight of 73,000 pounds to move faster with increased stability. Its larger cousin, the 1050 P-Tier, has been upgraded with a redesigned front end and hood, as well as more engine power.
A revamped JD14 engine replaces the 13.5-litre engine previously used in the 1050K, improving durability and cutting fuel consumption on the 1050 P-Tier, featuring an operating weight of 95,000 pounds. The emissions system is simpler than previous models as well, with no diesel particulate filter. A new cooling system has been designed with coolers side-by-side instead of stacked, improving efficiency and cleaning access.
Improved stability and operator visibility
At the front end, the 1050 P-Tier has a new tag link and blade design, which is conveniently located and brings the blade 10 inches closer to the frame. Along with the tag link, inverted tilt and pitch cylinders were added. These, combined with a lower hood and larger front window, help improve operator visibility to the blade. Repositioning the 168-inch blade due to the updated tag link design and pairing it with a double-bogie undercarriage provides operators with a more balanced machine, increased productivity, and a clearer view of the blade corners for precision work.
Both machines are now equipped with standard LED lighting to improve safety and operator efficiency when working at night or in low-light operations. Another new safety addition is the Operator Presence System, which ensures that an operator is present in the seat of the cab, with the seatbelt fastened, before the parking brake can be released. This protects against accidental movement or operation. The park brake switch is integrated into the system status monitor, eliminating the need for traditional park lock levers.
John Deere continues to update the P-Tier product line
With its continuously updated P-Tier line, John Deere has also included enhancements like SmartGrade on its small dozer models, including the 450, 550, and 650 P-Tier dozers. Digital tools like 2D grade control options simplify the grading process without the need for any daily setup or calibration.
Other optimized machines in the P-Tier range include the reduced fuel consumption 510 P-Tier excavator — delivering the same performance as larger machines with a 9.0-litre John Deere Power Systems engine. John Deere's mid-size range often supplies a comparable level of digging depth to larger frame excavators.
A comfortable working environment
In the cab, both models now feature a premium heated and ventilated seat option, which is air-suspended with adjustment controls for optimal ergonomics. The seat design remains at a 15-degree angle to provide optimal comfort when operating the rear ripper. New ergonomic controls, neutral counter rotate, and an integrated forward-neutral-reverse switch are all part of the updated cab.
Cold-weather hydraulic lines are specially tailored for cold-weather operations. These hoses can replace the standard option, and are rated for lower temperatures, ensuring smooth hydraulic function in harsh winter and weather conditions.
"John Deere is dedicated to providing its customers with large dozer options that fit the needs of every job site, and the new P-Tier machines offer the durability and reliability our customers demand from machines of this size class", says Matt Costello, product marketing manager, John Deere Construction & Forestry. "The 950 P-Tier and 1050 P-Tier dozer models were updated with the customer in mind, helping them increase efficiency, visibility, and gradeability in even the most demanding conditions."
