Three new Grove all-terrain cranes at bauma 2019

At bauma 2019 Manitowoc launched an impressive new unit in the five-axle category and two new three-axle models. Andreas Cremer, global product director for all-terrain cranes at Manitowoc, said the launch of the new models underlines the company's increased speed of product development under The Manitowoc Way and its ongoing commitment to building cranes that offer outstanding return on investment.

"We believe in developing cranes our customers can use in a wider variety of projects for better return on investment," he said. "The GMK5250XL-1 is a great example of how we do that. It's an update to our existing GMK5250L but we've added 8.5 m of boom for more reach, so it can take on more jobs. At the same time we've maintained the class-leading lift performance, maneuverability and fast set-up of the GMK5250L which make it such a popular choice with our customers."

With its 78.5 m boom the GMK5250XL-1 has the longest main boom of any five-axle all-terrain crane and combines that with the best lifting capabilities in the industry. As with all Grove all-terrain cranes it features Megatrak suspension and the Twin-Lock boom pinning system. It is also available with the MAXbase variable outrigger function for added versatility on the jobsite.

Options for the GMK5250XL-1 include the VIAB turbo retarder clutch, which first featured on the original GMK5250L. The VIAB unit enables wear-free starting and braking, enhancing maneuverability and operator comfort. In addition to its high-performance features the crane delivers a compact footprint, making it ideal for use in crowded or urban areas.

Rule of three

In the three-axle category, the GMK3060L sets new standards of excellence and includes a powerful, seven-section MEGAFORM boom with 48 m of main boom and a maximum tip height of 65 m when working with its full jib.

For consistency and control, the 60 t crane features Manitowoc's Crane Control System with boom configurator for fast and efficient set-up. With its compact carrier, the GMK3060L can squeeze into tight locations, again making it a great option for downtown job sites or congested projects.  

Next to the GMK3060L is the new GMK3050-2, an update of Grove's long-running three-axle offering, the GMK3050-1. It offers a 40 m main boom, fast operating speeds and a single counterweight configuration for ease of use. It's engine and design have also been updated to meet the latest requirements of Euromot 5 (which also covers both Tier 4 Final and Tier 3 regulations in the U.S. and the rest of the world).

Both the GMK5250XL-1 and GMK3060L offer the most compact footprint in their class, and both have best-in-class load charts when configured in taxi-mode, at 12t per axle.  

Besides the three new all-terrain crane models, Manitowoc showed the GMK4090 and the GMK6300L-1, both of which launched within the past 18 months. The GMK4090 launched at the end of 2017, while the GMK6300L-1 was introduced in the first quarter of last year.

The GMK4090 highlights Grove's leadership in the design of ‘taxi cranes' - lightweight and flexible cranes which can be optimized for both travel and lifting depending on user needs. It has a maximum capacity of 90 t, a main boom of 51 m and a maximum tip height of 75 m. The GMK4090 can travel with up to 18.3 t of counterweight, or can transport up to 9.1 t as a single vehicle while configured to less than 12 t per axle. 

The GMK6300L-1 is the successor to the hugely-popular GMK6300L. It has a 300 t maximum capacity and a maximum tip height of 120 m when working with its 80 m boom and 37 m of jib. When working with the main boom, it can lift up to 14 t at full height and can handle this from 14 m out to a 28 m radius, making it perfect for tower crane assembly. Power comes from a 430 kW Mercedes Benz (Euromot4/EPA Tier 4 final) engine which features improved fuel economy over its predecessor.

First Canadian Demag 300-6 all-terrain crane commissioned by Modern Crane

Milton, Ontario based Modern Crane received Canada's first Demag AC 300-6 all terrain crane. Genie adds two more XC models to telescopic boom lineup

Genie's S-40 and S-45 telescopic booms have been updated to incorporate Genie Xtra Capacity (XC) features. The new Genie telescopic S-40 XC and S-45 XC booms now offer a dual-lift capacity of 660 pounds (300 kg) unrestricted and 1,000 pounds (454 kg) restricted, giving these aerial lifts the ability to perform a wider range of heavier lift tasks on construction and industrial jobsites. These models can work with up to three people in the platform while still leaving room for tools and jobsite materials.

Liebherr launches MK 88-4.1 mobile construction crane

The additional number at the end of the product name reflects the 4 axles and that it is the first version of this crane type. JCB North America adds two LPG-fuelled models to Teletruk forklift line

JCB has added two liquid propane gas (LPG) fuelled models to its range of Teletruk forklifts. Liebherr LTM 1650-8.1 mobile crane delivers top load capacities on eight axles with telescopic boom lengths of 54 and 80 metres

Liebherr unveiled a new 8-axle mobile crane at bauma. The LTM 1650-8.1 is designed to deliver maximum performance. The new Liebherr mobile crane has large shoes to fill as it is the successor to the best- selling large crane of all time - with almost 600 units of the LTM 1500-8.1 delivered to date. The successful concept of the two telescopic boom versions is continued - the LTM 1650-8.1 is available with 54 and 80 metre telescopic booms.

Raimondi unveils LR273 luffing jib crane

Raimondi Cranes SpA showcased three cranes onsite at Bauma 2019. Two of the cranes were shown alongside the MRT573's slewing unit, cabin mast and counterjib. "We decided the best presentation of the MRT573 was at ground level simply to bring people up close and personal with our newest product," explained Eng. Domenico Ciano, Chief Operations Officer, Raimondi Cranes. 

"Smooth Operator" contest winner recognized - and certified - by Serious Labs at bauma

Attracting dozens of visitors from all over the world to test their operating skills on its Mobile Elevated Work Platform (MEWP) VR simulator at the bauma trade show in Munich, Germany, Edmonton-based pioneer of virtual reality (VR) training solutions Serious Labs announced the winner of its "Smooth Operator" contest, Nico Reinhold of Nimo Industries. Reinhold not only skated away with the grand prize but was also officially certified as a Mobile Elevated Work Platform (MEWP) operator.

Grove shows new rough-terrain cranes at bauma 2019

In 2018, Manitowoc's factory in Niella Tanaro, Italy boosted production of Grove rough-terrain cranes to better serve customers in Europe, Africa, the Middle East and Asia-Pacific, and this enhanced capability is highlighted at bauma 2019. The company is showing two rough-terrain cranes at the exhibition, a 100 t capacity GRT8100 and a 51 t capacity GRT655L. The GRT8100 on show was built at the Italian plant while Manitowoc plans to start building the GRT655L there in future. 

Terex RT 90 rough terrain crane offers versatility, control and operator comfort

The Terex RT 90 rough terrain crane offers a five section, fully hydraulic boom that extends to 47 m. A 17 m bi-fold jib further enhances the reach and versatility of the crane. Designed for easy operation, the Terex RT 90 features a control system with integrated diagnostics, a new ergonomic cab design with an 18-degree tilt and an easy to access flat deck for safety, superior usability and comfort. 

Liebherr introduces LTM 1110-5.1 - cost-effective transport with 60-metre telescopic boom

High load capacities with a long telescopic boom together with excellent global mobility are the main features of the new LTM 1110- 5.1 unveiled by Liebherr at Bauma. The new 5-axle crane achieves axle loads of 12 tonnes with 13.1 tonnes of ballast, but can also be driven with a gross weight of less than 48 tonnes with a maximum axle load of 10 tonnes. With its maximum ballast of 28.7 tonnes, it remains below an axle load of 15.5 tonnes. A quick-change system for the ballast slabs ensures maximum flexibility for modifications. The variable support base VarioBase delivers particularly high load capacities with its widened rear supports. Liebherr calls it VarioBasePlus.

Skyjack showcases new models and new technology at bauma

Linamar Corporation's Skyjack division changed things up a bit at this year's bauma. The leader in aerial access took the show indoors and brought a taste of Canada with them to their first two-story indoor booth. With their new full-size rough terrain scissor lift at the helm and the first of their redesigned DC electric scissor lifts on stand, there was a lot of traffic to hall C4 to see what Skyjack had to offer.

The heights of safety

Cramped jobsites are becoming the norm for construction projects, especially in busy urban areas. The combination of multiple machines, workers, material and everything else is a challenge in itself, and the addition of lift equipment to the mix means that safety must be top of mind.

Milestone reached on new Liebherr USA Co. headquarters construction project

The final piece of structural steel was recently installed at the Liebherr USA, Co. new headquarters building - a significant construction milestone. Work is on schedule for completion in 2020. The project will house Liebherr USA, Co. employees working in administration, finance, marketing, human resources, sales and service, product support, production and distribution for nine product units.
