Western Star Trucks has announced the availability of new options.

"We're continually adding new options that contribute to the truck's performance and our customers' bottom lines," said Samantha Parlier, vice president, marketing and product strategy, Western Star Trucks. "Western Star trucks are tough enough to take on any job whether it's a long haul on the road or tackling a construction site. Our new offerings reinforce our commitment to helping our customers find the best solution for their specific need." 

Options now available include:

·Michelin XMulti D Tires: Available for Western Star 4700, 4800, 4900 and 5700XE truckmodels, the new Michelin X® Multi D tire is a factory-installedoption designed for best-in-class mileage performance and scrub resistance withno compromise to traction. Best suited for regional applications such as dryvan LTL, food & beverage, pick up & delivery, tankers, energy, andconstruction, the Michelin X Multi D tires have a co-extruded compounding scrubresistant rubber for maximized tread life.

·New ForwardLighting Option for 4700 Models: The Western Star 4700 can now be spec'dwith factory-direct H4 halogen headlight bulbs. The bulbs provide a brighterlight than regular incandescent bulbs for better visibility. The cost-efficientH4 bulbs are readily available and easy to install, so drivers can quicklyreplace them as needed and get back on the road. 

·In-Cab4-Battery Box: Western Star has expanded the capacity of its in-cab batterybox to hold up to four batteries. Available for 5700XE day cabs, the batteriesare under the passenger seat instead of the side of the chassis. This optioncan help extend the life of the batteries by protecting them from extremeweather conditions, road spray and harsh chassis vibrations. Customers can alsospec a shorter wheelbase tractor, resulting in better wall-to-wall turningradius, lighter tractor weight, and increased fuel economy.

·New ForwardLighting Option for 4800 and 4900 Models: Now available for Western Star4800 and 4900 truck models are factory-installed LED headlights. LEDs areparticularly effective for night-time driving or foggy road conditions becausethey produce an illuminating, piercing light without blinding other road users.A low maintenance headlight option, LED headlights use less power from thetruck, making them energy and cost-efficient over a longer period.

Western Star Trucks 4700 model is ideal for  vocational applications, in various configurations including roll-off, dump, mixer, bulk hauler, tractor, and crane.

Available for Western Star 4700, 4800, 4900 and 5700XE truck models, the new Michelin X® Multi D tire is a factory-installed option designed for best-in-class mileage performance and scrub resistance with no compromise to traction.

Autocar releases new concrete mixer and concrete pump truck models

Autocar Trucks has announced the launch of two truck models purpose-built to serve the concrete and construction industry: the Autocar DC-64M, for concrete mixers, and the DC-64P for concrete pump applications. The Autocar DC is a completely new conventional truck engineered from the ground-up for severe-duty vocational applications. NTEA training module focuses on vehicle powertrains

To support employee education and training in the work truck industry, NTEA has developed a Truck Equipment 201 module covering commercial vehicle powertrains. TE201 is intended as a series of online course modules, designed for those with technical knowledge seeking deeper understanding of specific topics outlined in TE101 — the introductory course released by NTEA in 2017. This powertrain module — the second TE201 course — will help expand understanding of the vehicle powertrain by reviewing horsepower and torque, engine function and alternative propulsion, power and torque transfer by the transmission, and driveline and axle.

Automated trucks hit public roads as Daimler Trucks starts testing

Daimler Trucks and Torc Robotics are actively developing and testing automated trucks with SAE Level 4 intent technology on public roads. The initial routes are on highways in southwest Virginia, where Torc Robotics is headquartered. All automated runs require both an engineer overseeing the system and a highly trained safety driver certified by Daimler Trucks and Torc Robotics. All safety drivers hold a commercial driver's license and are specially trained in vehicle dynamics and automated systems.

Volvo Trucks introduces enhanced turbo compound engine in VNL models

Volvo Trucks North America is introducing the next generation of its Turbo Compound technology, providing up to an additional 3 percent improvement in fuel efficiency over the current 13-litre Turbo Compound engine, the D13TC. This new engine delivers up to 11 percent fuel savings overall compared to model-year 2015 trucks. Other improvements include enhanced efficiency over a wider range of applications, more engine ratings and a new EE Extra Efficiency drive mode. The new D13TC will be available for order in the fourth quarter of 2019 and go into production at the end of the first quarter of 2020.

Philippi-Hagenbuch invents new positive seal tailgate for truck bodies & containers

Philippi-Hagenbuch Inc. has invented a new version of their Autogate Tailgate specifically for off-highway trucks and roll-off containers that require a 100% positive seal. $400 million plant investment to boost quality for Volvo Trucks customers

The Volvo Group has announced plans to invest nearly $400 million over six years to upgrade the New River Valley, Virginia plant that produces all Volvo trucks sold in North America.  The upgrades include expansion of the industrial footprint and installation of a variety of state-of-the-art equipment that will improve plant efficiency and deliver even higher product quality for customers.
