Atlas Copco’s Dynapac CP1200 pneumatic tired roller enhances efficiency, serviceability, safety and operator comfort while achieving optimal compaction results. The roller’s flexible steel ballast is distributed evenly between tires for consistent ground pressure between the front and rear tires. This also allows the weight to be easily adjusted for optimal performance in any application – from finishing to sealing.

The Tier 4 Final engine reduces 90 percent of particulate matter and 90 percent of Nitrous Oxide Emission (NOx) compared to a Tier 3 engine. The engine produces low levels of ambient noise thanks to thermostatically controlled cooling fans, which allow the operator to easily communicate with crews using a two-way radio. In addition, minimal engine noise lessens the risk of hearing damage for the operator. The CP1200 also is equipped with an ultra-smooth start/stop system so contractors can quickly and easily change directions.

The platform on the CP1200 is spacious and features operator-friendly controls and a swivel seat for optimal visibility from the operator station. This allows the operator to comfortably move from one side of the roller to the other to maintain optimal visibility and avoid having to strain his or her neck to get a clear view of the drum edge. It also gives operators the confidence to work faster. The unit also can be equipped with a cab with Automatic Climate Control, which automatically adjusts the temperature for operator comfort.

Atlas Copco designed the CP1200 with its exclusive dual-circuit braking system that maintains full braking effect even if one circuit is disabled. This feature is critical for projects on inclined surfaces as it safeguards against damage and injuries.

The CP1200 has a compacting width of 5.77 feet and maximum operating weight of 26,400 pounds, which makes it ideal for a variety of applications from finishing to sealing. An optional DCA-A compaction analyzer records the rolling activity and recommends the optimum number of passes based on type of material being compacted, density needed and hours of operation. In addition to achieving the ideal density more quickly, the DCA-A analyzer also records the rolling patterns for analysis and quality assurance.

With an optional air-on-the-run system, operators can adjust the tire pressure during the compaction process. This eliminates the need to manually adjust tire press, which minimizes downtime. The new heat cover wheel also improves compaction results.

The new CP1200 shares many components and sub-systems with other Atlas Copco models so dealers can minimize their parts inventory and save money.

Bergkamp Pivot Tack System for FP5 Flameless Pothole Patcher eliminates tripping hazards and keeps tack off of equipment

Tack that is sprayed into potholes to increase adhesion within a patch can also adhere to equipment hoses. In addition, the hoses can present jobsite tripping hazards. To address these common issues, Bergkamp Inc. has engineered a new Pivot Tack/Air Hose System for its FP5 Flameless All-In-One Pothole Patcher. Located at the back-right side of the FP5's hopper body, the system's pivoting arm holds the original tack hose off of the ground and parallel to the hopper, locked in place for transporting with a spring-loaded pin.

Recycled aggregates for roads

Municipalities are responsible for the care and maintenance of vast amounts of roads, from lanes to highways. When those roads are repaired or replaced, there's the potential to generate a significant amount of aggregate material - concrete and asphalt removed from the surface that must be dealt with.
Today's roadbuilding contractors are taking this material and recycling it more than ever before. However, research is showing that some municipalities are far better than others when it comes to using this type of aggregate in their roads - and some are far behind.

Ground penetrating radar provides critical insight for maintaining Canada's aging roads and bridges

Municipalities across Canada are burdened with aging transportation infrastructure, much of which was constructed in the post-war era and is nearing the end of its useful life. The 2016 Canadian Infrastructure Report Card (CIRC) found that one third of municipal infrastructure across the country is in fair, poor or very poor condition, and this includes 39 percent of roads and 26 percent of bridges. Cold weather and the use of corrosive de-icing salts further threaten the reliability of the transportation infrastructure we rely on every day.

Road Dryer RD-1200 safely dries pavement in one pass for paving, surface treatments

The RD-1200XT pavement-drying unit from Greenville, South Carolina-based Road Dryer, LLC, quickly dries asphalt and concrete pavement, allowing crews to pave or apply surface treatments or striping after just one pass. The unit, which blows heated air up to 300° F directly downward through multiple nozzles, eliminates the risk of "flying objects," and allows traffic to flow in nearby lanes — reducing congestion caused by traffic restrictions. Available as a simple-to-operate trailer- or truck-mounted unit, the RD-1200XT can be adjusted for 8-ft to 12-ft (2.4m to 3.7m) drying widths. Because it dries pavement on demand, it provides flexibility for contractors and government agencies to meet timetables by minimizing delays from weather- and project-related wet conditions.
