The PCL family of companies has has been recognized with two Canadian Construction Association Awards in response to continued dedication in the fields of innovation and international business. PCL received the 2015 CCA Excellence in Innovation Award, given for the practice of replacing traditional heating and hoarding with ice-fishing tents and propane heaters, thus saving time and money at the Heartland Substation project in Gibbons, Alberta. Overall cost savings using the tent plan as opposed to traditional heating and hoarding was $415 per pile, or $166,180 with over 85 percent of the savings having come from heating. PCL also won the Excellence in Innovation award in 2014 for a method of pressure-testing concrete formwork, and in 2012 for the PCL engineered industrial module lift frame.
PCL was also a co-winner of the 2015 CCA International Business Award. The award recognizes PCL’s geographic diversification over the years, which has provided opportunities for growth and a degree of protection in the cyclical construction industry. Further, PCL was recognized for international recruiting practices as well as global procurement strategies, which benefit clients on a multitude of projects at home and abroad.
