Bult Equipment named exclusive distributor of Titan EMD’s S4412B scraper for North America

Titan Earthmoving Equipment Division (Titan EMD), a division of Titan Trailers Inc. and the designer and manufacturer of the innovative S4412B heavy-duty scraper system, has announced an exclusive distribution agreement with Bult Equipment, LLC of Monee, IL.

Bult Equipment will now be Titan EMD’s exclusive sales and service dealer in the United States and Canada.

Mike Kloepfer, President of Titan EMD, says that Bult is the ideal representative to introduce the S4412B system to the construction market. “Bult has a unique appreciation of heavy-duty scraper applications from the customers’ perspective and truly are scraper experts. Jim Bult initiated the concept of the High Arch Drawframe that’s at the heart of our design, and he has been an integral part of our development and test process. Nobody has a better understanding of the engineering behind the S4412B, or the advantages this design offers to heavy earthmoving contractors.”

Earthmoving reinvented
The S4412B is a new high-capacity scraper system that integrates a 44 cu. yd. bowl with a customized Bell 4206D scraper tractor. “This is the first earthmoving system designed specifically to build on the power and efficiency of today’s most advanced scraper tractors,” says Kloepfer. “By engineering the two units to work together, the S4412B introduces a highly versatile system that lets contractors earn more on their total equipment investment by delivering more material at faster speeds with lower operating costs and higher reliability.”

Key features of the system include a maximum capacity of 55 tons, conventional and top load capability, tight integration and maneuverability with the Bell tractor, plus the High Arch Drawframe designed to optimize weight transfer to the tractor. Its rear wheel assembly is based on a pair of massive 100” (250 cm) diameter E3 earthmover tires on 5 inch (12,7 cm) diameter axles.

Advanced earthmoving power
According to Mike Kloepfer, the S4412B was designed for large, earthmoving/bulk material projects and is optimized for both conventional push-loading operations and for top-loaded hauler/spreader operations. In some applications, the S4412B is also capable of self-loading. As he explains, “This is not just an agricultural scraper that has been sized up and hooked onto an ag tractor. The Bell scraper tractor is a construction‑class tractor with a frame structure designed to carry heavy payloads, a high torque transmission designed for scraper applications and 50‑ton axles to carry the load. Everything about the scraper, from its High Arch Drawframe to its sidewall structure to its hydraulic systems, is built to stand up to the heaviest earthmoving applications.”

The scraper bowl lists a struck capacity of 30 cu. yd. and heaped loads up to 44 cu. yd. The 4-piece cutting edge scrapes a 12 ft. (365,8 cm) swath up to 13 inches (33,2 cm) deep, loading through an apron opening of up to 89 inches (226 cm). The bowl’s 73” (185,4 cm) high sidewalls minimize spillage while loading and its wide footprint provides excellent load retention, even at high speeds. “Part of our productivity strategy,” says Kloepfer, “is to make sure the material you load stays loaded. The high bowl walls and fast, smooth ride allow it to deliver more of the captured load to the dump location.”

The power unit is a 422 HP Bell 4206D scraper tractor driven by a 12-liter Mercedes Benz diesel engine and Allison 6-speed automatic transmission. The smooth-riding tractor achieves top speeds in excess of 24 mph (39 kph), while the 37.5 x 39 right-sized scraper tires ensure maximum flotation and stability over soft and uneven ground.

Strength and agility
The scraper’s distinctive High Arch Drawframe couples the scraper and tractor through a massive 12 inch (30,5 cm) diameter ball hitch. The ball hitch is positioned well ahead of the tractor’s rear axle to take best advantage of its inherent strength, speed, traction and agility. The drawframe configuration effectively transfers the weight of the loaded scraper to both tractor axles equally, achieving maximum tractive effort in all soil conditions. Equalizing tractive effort and distributing load stresses to both axles helps to ensure a long, productive lifecycle. The compact connection through the High Arch Drawframe also allows the 55’8” (1 697 cm) long scraper system to turn within a radius of just 39 ft. (1 189 cm), enabling operators to maneuver quickly and safely on congested work sites.

Rental fleet available
Bult Equipment has already acquired an extensive fleet of S4412B scraper bowls and Bell 4206D tractors to meet immediate customer needs. Additionally, Bult Equipment maintains an inventory of Bell and Titan spare parts to properly support the scraper fleet as well as product in the field. “Moving and spreading 44-yard loads of material at more than 24 mph is a great way to kick-start a new project,” says Jim Bult. “With the inventory we have in stock available now for rental customers, contractors can get their large projects underway profitably right from day one!”
