Oscillation or vibration in same machine

Oscillation or vibration in same machine
The Sakai SW652ND double-drum oscillating roller oscillates or vibrates on both drums simultaneously. Each drum is independently controlled for optimum flexibility. This advanced technology machine achieves the required compaction faster on both thin and thick lift asphalt applications.

The vibration mode is a typical Sakai high frequency 4020 vpm dual amplitude, double drum roller. Sakai high frequency permits high ground speeds that enable the roller to reach density fast.

The more gentle oscillation mode offers a new drum motion that will neither over-compact the mat nor fracture the aggregate. It is especially useful while compacting thin lifts, in gaining density at the joints and during finish passes. It also achieves compaction quickly on bridge deck overlays and other sensitive areas that cannot withstand vibration. By developing a horizontal, rather than vertical motion in the oscillatory mode, the SW652ND can successfully vibrate and move the material’s particles without damaging the mat surface. Switching from oscillation to vibration modes and back may be achieved by the operator while on the run. As the SW652ND can be used as a breakdown roller in the high frequency vibration mode and as a finish roller using oscillation, paving contractors may be able to reduce the number of rollers on the jobsite.

The drums are cross-mounted such that the drive motors are on opposite sides of the machine, enabling the roller to roll straight, even at slow speeds. Dual, rustproof spray bars at each drum with brass spray nozzles and a triple filtration system, helps to keep drum surfaces wet, thereby preventing asphalt pick-up. SAKAI’s vibration isolation system helps keep drum vibration from reaching the operator and critical machine components.
