With Tier 4 Final emissions standards firmly in place and EU Stage V standards a year or so off, the diesel engine industry has been busy focusing on specific applications and looking toward the future for 2018. Heavy Equipment Guide provides a look at what the diesel engine industry is working on, introducing or focused toward to start 2018.
Spectacular machines in dramatic working environments, and entertaining and informative demonstrations of power and precision; the "Mighty Jobs" series will take viewers to several fascinating locations where Volvo Penta's industrial engine and machinery range is making a vast difference to the lives of customers and ultimately to daily life.
As the next level of EU emissions regulations comes ever closer, manufacturer Sandvik has chosen Volvo Penta as the ideal provider of Stage V solutions for its mining equipment. With some of the toughest working conditions in confined areas, underground mining has many physical aspects to consider and more requirements than most industries for stringent rules on emissions.
Italian ground engineering manufacturer Soilmec will install Volvo Penta's new 13-litre Stage V solution in its SR-75 piling rig. Following a successful outcome of equipping the rig with Volvo Penta's EU Stage IIIA and Stage IV engines, Soilmec has selected the Swedish company's D13 Stage V solution for future production. The change comes ahead of the new emissions regulations coming into force in 2019.
Optimized for tomorrow, the new EU Stage V engines feature the latest technology and are an ideal fit where excellent fuel efficiency, low emissions, high productivity and reliability are required. The 13-litre engine with exhaust aftertreatment system (EATS) is a great choice for large machinery while the 5-liter solution is ideal for smaller equipment.
"We spin, roll, propel, lift and power those who move with the elements. This is what we stand for at Volvo Penta. This is who we are," says Kina Wileke, senior vice president, brand, communication and marketing at Volvo Penta. "In this way, our new ‘Made to move you' tagline complements our brand across all the different types of business that we support. Customers within different industries and areas of interest will be able to make their own interpretations of it. And that's its purpose."
For the sixth time, Volvo Penta - known for its engines in a variety of industrial, power generation and marine uses - is an official supplier to the Volvo Ocean Race, providing each of the Volvo Ocean 65 sailing boats with a D2-75 engine with Saildrive, hands-on engine maintenance and support, as well as additional power during the race stopovers.
