Contractor finds Champion C60 motor graders provide ideal solution

Floyd Brothers Construction specializes in building new parking lots from scratch, including all infrastructure and site work, beginning with earthmoving and site preparation, laying of the underground utilities, putting down the base and curbs and gutters, and then finish grading and paving. It’s a full-scale operation that requires the right kind of dependable and durable equipment to get the job done. After experimenting with a variety of graders over the years, including small tandem machines, the Floyd brothers settled on single axle Champion C60 Motor Graders to get the job done right, on time and within budget. Today, they have six of these units in operation.

Cummins Tier 3 engines standard on new Champion Production Class Graders

Champion Motor Graders has announced that its new Production Class Graders will come standard with a turbocharged Cum-mins QSB6.7 Tier 3 inline six-cylinder 120 hp (89 kW) engine. Weighing in at 23,500 pounds, the graders are designed to bridge the gap between compact and traditional full-sized graders. With the increased power and better torque curve offered by the emissions-compliant Cummins Tier 3 engine, Champion says that the C110 C Grader is poised to become the versatile mid-sized grader package of choice for increased job applications.

Grader has 50-degree turning radius

Champion's introduction of the C Series single-axle compact graders was highlighted by a re-engineered front axle that achieves the tightest turning radius in the industry. The C Series front axle allows 50 degrees of steering angle left and right, an improvement of 15 degrees over previous models. With the frame fully articulated, both machines are able to turn 360 degrees within a 17 feet 6 inch circle. The C 60 C is Champion's rear-drive single axle machine, while the C66 C is the All Wheel Drive version.

Grader has tight turning radius

Champion's introduction of the C Series updates to its two single-axle compact graders was highlighted by a re-engineered front axle that achieves a very tight turning radius. The C Series front axle allows 50 degrees of steering angle left and right, an improvement of 15 degrees over previous models. With the frame fully articulated, both machines are able to turn 360 degrees within a 17-foot, six-inch circle. The C 60 C is Champion's rear-drive single axle machine, while the C66 C is the All Wheel Drive version. The new front axle in C Series models also raises the ground clearance capability of the small graders.

High ground clearance and tight turning radius

Like the Champion C80 C and C86 C models, the new C60 C and C66 C graders are now designed with a re-engineered front axle, providing the highest ground clearance and the tightest turning radius of any grader in their class, the company reports. They also have a new moldboard and blade lift arrangement and a stronger mount for the Champion articulation cylinder.
