Terex introduces asphalt plant cost calculator

The Terex Roadbuilding asphalt plant cost calculator helps producers estimate the long-term operating, materials, labour, transport and hauling costs, critical to the decision-making process. This program, available on CD-ROM, helps to establish a systematic approach of selecting the right plant for established producers wanting a new plant or paving contractors looking to move into asphalt production.

It lets you enter actual expenses to estimate the cost-per-ton of asphalt produced. Based on these real-world numbers, the calculator compares the costs between five different Terex counterflow drum mix plant models: the portable and relocatable E3-300 and E3-400; and the super-portable E100P, E150P and E225P plants.

For paving contractors making the transition to asphalt production, the calculator makes a detailed comparison between the actual purchase price of asphalt mix versus the cost to produce the mix. Once an estimated annual production tonnage is established, this useful tool determines the price per ton of asphalt based on liquid AC, aggregate and sand, fuel, labour and maintenance costs.

If you anticipate moving the plant, the calculator specifies the total costs of a move, including estimated freight, tear down, set up, calibration and number of required move days. A final summary page compares the cost of purchasing and hauling mix to the job site against plant ownership, mix production and plant moving costs. Cost-per-ton savings of owning a plant allow you to project a return on investment.

The final screen displays the cost comparison of the two plants. Here it also makes a recommendation of which plant will fit the producer best, given the set of circumstances entered in the program.
