45-ton telescopic-boom crawler crane

45-ton telescopic-boom crawler crane
The 45-ton, Mantis 9010 telescopic-boom crawler crane joins the ten-model 18- to 100-ton-capacity line. Like all Mantis crawler cranes, the 9010 is not only a lift crane but can also be equipped by the manufacturer to work with a variety of ground-engaging tools such as augers and pile-driving attachments. Unlike lattice boom cranes or rough terrain cranes, all Mantis cranes are designed with the structural strength to apply downward pressure from the telescopic boom on a variety of tools and attachments.

The 9010 has a very conservatively rated load chart. Its 45-ton rating is at a full 10-foot radius through 360 degrees and it can pick-and-carry its entire load chart. Unlike rough terrain cranes, it is rated at 75 percent of stability. The new model features a long 105-foot, four-section full power telescopic boom of heavy folded plate construction to withstand the rigours of side-loads, dynamic and vibratory loads commonly experienced in foundation applications, powerline erection, pipelining, and general construction.

The crane can operate with the fully-telescoped boom lowered completely to the horizontal and still lift over one ton at 100 feet maximum radius. For extra reach, the Mantis 9010 can be equipped with a 30-foot lattice swingaway extension and20-foot offsetable fly jib to increase maximum tip height to 159 feet – competitive with lattice boom crawler cranes and rough terrain cranes in the same capacity class.

Mantis cranes do not get their lifting strength from heavy counterweights but through a combination of a very low cen-tre of gravity, and a long and wide heavy-duty crawler undercarriage. The 19-foot long tracks hydraulically extend to a width of 18 feet 4 inches with maximum 36-inch-wide, triple grouser shoes. But, like all Mantis cranes, the 9010 can operate either with tracks fully extended (for optimum capacities) or fully retracted when space constraints dictate.

Power is provided by a 215-hp Cummins turbocharged diesel and a high-pressure open-loop load-sensing hydraulic system with two main variable volume axial piston pumps, affording simultaneous use of all functions. Gradeability is 54 percent.

The 9010 is a highly compact machine. With boom lowered, the 9010 is only 10 feet high, allowing it to easily pass under low bridges and work in tunnels. It can lift and carry its maximum capacity over the front or rear with the tracks retracted to an overall width of just between 11 and 12 feet according to track width. In addition, by counter-rotating the tracks, it can pivot-turn on the spot and therefore turn in a tighter circle than even a small RT crane with all wheel steer.

A variety of types and sizes of track pads can be supplied to suit virtually any ground conditions. With the widest standard tracks, minimum ground bearing pressure is only 6.1 psi. Also, with its low height, narrow transport width and all-up working weight of about 90,000 pounds, the 9010 can be quickly deployed and generally can be transported as a single load.
