Volvo wheeled compact excavator for road work

The Volvo EW55B is the company’s first wheeled compact excavator with a top speed of 18.6 mph/29.9 kmh. It is in the same size class as the popular EC55B and ECR58 (short swing radius) excavators, but is equipped with a dual-axle wheel drive chassis. The compact design makes it easier to operate in narrow streets. The front axle has power-assisted steering and centre oscillating pivot to assist in conforming to road and terrain conditions.
When digging, two oscillation lock cylinders keep the front axle fixed when the lock is engaged to improve machine stability. Fully-hydraulic, multi-disc, wet brakes on all four wheels insure safer operation when used in high traffic areas.
Total Power Control hydraulics sense priority of the boom and dipper for fast and smooth cycle times and also act as the boom anti-drift device. A one-touch boost feature increases the machine’s digging and lifting forces and the hydraulic system pumps oil to the functions only when it is needed.
Some EW55B specifications are: 52 net hp (38.8 kW) at 2,100 rpm; operating weight 11,552 pounds (5300 kg); digging reach 19 feet 7 inches (5.97m); digging depth 11 feet 2 inches (3.41m); and bucket breakout force 9,149 foot pounds. The undercarriage uses hydrostatic-driven 4-wheel drive with two forward and reverse gears.
