VIDEO: AFEX expands Compact Series with larger 3-gallon fire suppression system
The increased size and reduced mounting limitations allow for effective fire protection on a range of construction and mining equipment
AFEX Fire Suppression Systems has introduced a new 3-gallon liquid agent fire suppression system to round out its Compact Series. The system is FM-approved to FM 5970 for Heavy-Duty Mobile Equipment, reinforcing AFEX's commitment to third-party tested, reliable fire protection.
A larger fire suppression system for construction and mining equipment
The new 3-gallon system builds on the success of AFEX's 1.5-gallon Compact System, offering increased agent capacity for larger or more complex hazard areas while maintaining a compact design. Like the original system, the 3-gallon tank can be mounted in any orientation, giving installers greater flexibility when integrating fire suppression into equipment with limited available space.
A defining advantage of the AFEX Compact Series is its versatile tank design. The 3-gallon system can be mounted vertically, horizontally, or at an angle, allowing fire suppression to be installed in locations where traditional tank placement may not be practical.
"Expanding the Compact Series with a 3-gallon option allows us to support a wider range of equipment without compromising installation flexibility or system performance," said Michael Medina, project manager at AFEX. "With FM approval and the proven performance of SAFE-X, customers can trust these systems to help protect operators and equipment when it matters most."
This flexibility is especially valuable for compact and mid-sized machines, including:
- Compact loaders and skid steers
- Buses and transportation fleets
- Service trucks and utility equipment
- Equipment with confined engine compartments
- Machines used in forestry, waste and recycling, mining, and industrial operations
By reducing mounting limitations, the system helps simplify installation and supports proper system placement for effective fire protection.
Increased capacity for heavy equipment
FM 5970 is the globally recognized benchmark for fire suppression systems designed for heavy-duty mobile equipment (HDME). The 3-gallon Compact System is designed for machines that require more fire suppression agent than the 1.5-gallon system can provide, while still needing a compact footprint. This makes it well-suited for equipment with larger engine compartments, higher heat exposure, or more complex hazard areas.
The system is intended for applications where heat, hydraulic fluids, fuel, debris, and tight machine layouts can increase fire risk. By offering both 1.5-gallon and 3-gallon options, AFEX gives equipment owners and distributors more flexibility to select the right-sized system for each application.
SAFE-X is engineered to:
- Rapidly reduce temperatures on high-heat components
- Help prevent re-ignition through effective cooling
- Penetrate debris and suppress fires involving fuel and hydraulic fluids
Liquid agent systems are particularly effective in applications where cooling is critical and where flammable fluids, debris, and hot surfaces are common fire risks.
AFEX offers both liquid agent and dry chemical fire suppression systems, allowing customers to select the appropriate solution based on the specific hazards, machine type, and operating environment.
The certification confirms that the system has undergone rigorous independent testing to ensure performance under real-world conditions, including vibration, temperature extremes, and demanding operating environments.
The AFEX 3-gallon Compact Liquid Agent Fire Suppression System is now available through AFEX's global network of authorized distributors.
