Liebherr's lineup of mobile cranes is evolving with an all-new design and the dedicated implementation of the new LICCON3 control. The new LTM 1090-4.3 will be equipped with the new control system and existing crane models will be converted to get the most out of the advanced tech. To reflect the technology updates on the mobile cranes, the last digit of each machine will be increased by one. For example, the LTM 1090-4.2 is currently being upgraded to the LTM 1090-4.3.

The third generation of the LICCON control system

Liebherr has taken proven operating concepts to the next level with the third generation of its LICCON control system (Liebherr Computed Control). LICCON3 features completely new software and programming language, faster data bus, significantly more memory, and higher computer performance.

Proven hardware components like the mobile operating and display unit BTT have been adopted into the new system. The touchscreen function on the new large display in the superstructure cab creates an even more comfortable control system. Future updates include the ability for operators to view and evaluate all relevant data using the MyLiebherr customer portal.

A redesigned driver and crane cab for a comfortable ride

The refreshed design on the LTM 1090-4.3 is reflected in high-quality materials and a timeless design that brings significant improvements for the crane operator. Updates include the multifunction steering wheel, side roller blind on the driver's door, improved instruments and modules, and new displays. Additional conveniences for the operator are the central locking system with remote key and the "Coming and Leaving Home" function.

To deliver a high level of comfort for the operator on long days, the new automatic heating and air-conditioning system is installed in the driver and crane operator's cab. As well, a sun sensor detects strong sunshine and automatically adjusts the heating settings to keep the operators cool and comfortable.

The lighting packages for the crane cab, the superstructure, the rear of the vehicle, the front headlights, and the telescopic boom, as well as the lattice fly jib have been optimized and can be operated with LEDs. The benefits of LED technology include a longer service life and superior lighting performance.

Farther reach with a 197-foot telescopic boom

The LTM 1090-4.3 builds on proven crane performance, specifically the LTM 1090-4.2, originally launched at CONEXPO-CON/AGG in 2017. The new model can be driven with various axle loads on roads and construction sites from 22,050 lb and 26,450 lb, up to 35,275 lb (10 tonnes, 12 tonnes, and 16 tonnes).

With the ability to carry up to 19,400 lbs (8.8 tonnes) of counterweight with an axle load of 36,450 lbs (12 tonnes), the LTM 1090-4.3 delivers ample value in the 4-axle class. This weight class also means the crane operator can complete the majority of crane jobs at a low cost without needing to transport additional ballast loads

Like its predecessor, the LTM 1090-4.3 has a 197-foot (60-metre) telescopic boom, but its performance reaches even farther when extended and in a steep position. These updates are a great advantage for the assembly of tower cranes, one of its main applications.

Liebherr mobile crane innovations

  • ECOdrive and ECOmode: Lower fuel consumption and reduced noise emissions
  • VarioBallast adjustable ballast radius and Varobase variable support base: Standard on the new crane, these feature increase performance, safety, and flexibility
  • DynamicPerform clutch module: enables virtually wear-free starting and manoeuvring without overheating by transmitting the engine power via an oil-cooled plate pack

New additions to the mobile crane

In addition to the new crane control system and the new design, the LTM 1090-4.3 also features other technical advancements to improve efficiency, comfort, and safety. The Blind Spot Information System (BSIS) improved road safety using a new intelligent assistance system. The Moving Off Information System (MOIS) supports the driver and increases protection for pedestrians and cyclists.

The LTM 1090-4.3 is also prepared for the use of RemoteDrive as standard. A radio remote control with which the crane can be moved from the outside — advantage on confined construction sites. For even more comfort and reliability, new options are available that have already been tried and tested on other models. This includes a central lubrication system for the undercarriage and a digital tire pressure indicator, which ensure optimum maintenance and availability of the crane.
