Construction technology has reached an inflection point where the tools exist to transform job site efficiency, but the industry still grapples with fundamental challenges.

For example, how to scale operations to facilitate larger projects or how to make different equipment brands and software platforms work together seamlessly. And, most critically, how to bridge the gap between technology promise and practical implementation.

Trimble will address these questions head-on at CONEXPO-CON/AGG 2026 during a panel on March 3 at 2:30 p.m. The discussion will take a deep dive into the ISO 15143-4 Worksite Topographical Data standard, a recent development that could fundamentally reshape equipment and technology investment.

Moderated by the Association of Equipment Manufacturers and featuring panelists from John Deere, LBX Company, and Trimble, this session explores what ISO 15143-4 means in practice.

At its most basic, this industry-led initiative establishes common data formats and communication protocols that enable true plug-and-play interoperability between machines and site management solutions — regardless of manufacturer. It's a formalized commitment by OEMs and technology providers to enable seamless grade control system data sharing across mixed fleets.

Benefits of the new Worksite Topographical Data standard

Enabling primary workflow efficiency: The new standard enables seamless data flow primarily supporting the essential office-to-field workflow. The focus is on transferring design and project information to the site, with field-to-office data (such as as-built information) expected to follow.

Guaranteed interoperability for mixed fleets: Whether a contractor uses owned or rental equipment, the standard ensures that all project data can flow seamlessly to all machines, regardless of the make, model, or technology vendor being used on the machine.

Spearheading industry innovation and growth: Supported by AEM, the standard is designed to address some of the usability barriers to adopting technology — technology that is well proven to have meaningful efficiency and productivity gains to the industry.

Establishing a common platform for safety and quality: As an ISO standard originating from the working group, this common foundation is expected to ensure greater safety and quality and provide assurance to regulators regarding the veracity of the product and data.

Attendees will gain practical insights into creating value from data in mixed-fleet environments and understand the pathway toward true equipment brand interoperability. The discussion will address why this collaborative mindset is essential for increasing access to technology across the construction industry.

The standard and the panel discussion will provide insights into standards development that will shape equipment purchasing decisions for years to come.

At CONEXPO-CON/AGG 2026 experience the latest in machine control hardware and integrated software solutions that unify project site data for real-time decision-making. From earthmoving and grading to marine construction and infrastructure, Trimble's portfolio connects field and office workflows across every phase of construction.
