Electric mining excavator from Komatsu features backhoe configuration, high-capacity bucket
The electric drive system in the PC7000-11E can lower emissions by up to 95 percent compared to diesel

As mining companies set more aggressive emission reduction targets, demand for electric heavy equipment continues to grow. At this year's bauma event, Komatsu showcased the PC7000-11E, an electrically powered hydraulic mining excavator in a backhoe configuration. This large-scale mining machine offers an alternative to traditional diesel-powered models while delivering the same mobility and productivity.
High-capacity bucket improves productivity
The PC7000-11E is equipped with a 44m³ backhoe bucket designed to increase loading efficiency and optimize payload match. When paired with Komatsu haul trucks ranging from the 730E to the 980E, the PC7000-11E helps reduce truck passes and cycle times. Pairing the backhoe bucket with a 930E truck or larger can reduce the number of required passes, contributing to higher productivity.
Electrification reduces emissions and total cost of ownership
The electric drive system in the PC7000-11E can lower Scope 1 emissions by up to 95 percent compared to a conventional diesel-powered equivalent. Komatsu's power-agnostic technology is intended to help operations meet sustainability goals.
Key benefits of electric hydraulic mining excavators include:
- Elimination of diesel fuel use
- Reduced parts and maintenance costs
- Lower lubrication requirements
- Up to 50 percent savings in total cost of ownership compared to Tier 4 diesel systems
Cable management and system diagnostics support uptime
The PC7000-11E features a fully automatic cable drum system that simplifies cable handling in the pit, enhancing safety and maneuverability during operation. Simplified electric controls make diagnostics and troubleshooting more efficient, increasing uptime.
Optimized for modern mining demands
Komatsu offers a range of OEM attachments in both backhoe and front shovel configurations to support different site requirements. The backhoe setup is especially suited for challenging mining environments, while bucket designs are optimized for every phase of the digging cycle. The PC7000-11E is engineered to meet the operational needs of evolving mine sites where flexibility and performance are critical.
Safety and accessibility enhancements
The latest generation of Komatsu hydraulic mining excavators includes a 45-degree access system, three emergency exits, and improved entry and exit features to support safe operation in harsh mining environments.
