Now an iconic symbol of the Bay Area, San Francisco's Golden Gate Bridge was almost never built. Controversy swirled around the project to span the waterway known as the Golden Gate, but in the early 1930s it was finally approved. This vintage film from the 1960s features footage captured during the construction of the famous tourist attraction, detailing the methods and materials used to build this marvel of engineering.
