Chevrolet has updated its popular Silverado for 2022, adding a variety of new features including the first-ever Silverado ZR2 off-road model.
The 2022 enhanced Silverado also features an elevated exterior design, and, a new, expressive interior with enhanced technology. Changes include a 13.4-inch-diagonal touchscreen standard on LT, RST, LT Trail Boss, ZR2, LTZ and High Country, available Super Cruise hands-free driver assistance technology with trailering on High Country. Engine options get update
2022 Silverados will be powered by a strengthened and streamlined set of engine options. The 2.7L Turbo engine features a new, more rigid cylinder block casting complemented by a stiffer crankshaft; these and other enhancements allow the engine to generate an estimated maximum torque of 420 lb.-ft., more than 20 percent greater than the current engine. Its complementing eight-speed automatic transmission has also been optimized.
Also seeing improvements is the popular 3.0L Duramax Turbo-Diesel. Along with chassis changes allowing inclusion of the max tow pack, the engine now provides a max tow rating of 13,300 pounds in a two-wheel-drive configuration.
Other engines include the proven 5.3L V-8 with Dynamic Fuel Management, and the 6.2L V-8 — the most powerful naturally aspirated V-8 engine in the segment, according to Chevrolet. All V-8 engines and the 3.0L Duramax Turbo-Diesel are paired exclusively with a 10-speed automatic transmission for retail customers.
Interiors redesigned for comfort, quality
The 2022 Silverado includes a fully redesigned interior for several trim levels, featuring a redesigned horizontal instrument panel that makes the cabin feel more spacious, along with a more functional centre console and available electronic shift control on some models.
A 13.4-inch-diagonal colour touchscreen and 12.3-inch-diagonal configurable digital instrument cluster are standard on all models with the new interior. Also standard on those trims, Google built-in offers access to Google Assistant, Google Maps and Google Play on the infotainment screen. This works with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, offering new customization capabilities.
ZR2 takes off-road performance lead
The first-ever Silverado ZR2 offers a premium interior, high end technology and off-road prowess. Suspension upgrades include Multimatic 40 mm DSSV spool-valve dampers and uniquely tuned springs that help increase maxiumum front and rear suspension travel. It also includes front and rear e-lockers, and a specific off-road chassis and suspension calibraitons including Terrain Mode, which allows one-pedal rock crawling.
The ZR2 features a standard 6.2L V-8 engine producing 420 horsepower and 460 lb.-ft. of torque paired with a 10-speed transmission.
Technology updates include Super Cruise
Silverado will include a variety of technology upgrades for 2022, thanks to the new infotainment screen and more intuitive technology. Available features include Rear Camera Mirror and Head-Up Display.
Also available is Super Cruise, what Chevy states is the first true hands-free driver assistance technology for divided and compatible roads. Available on Silverado High Country, it uses a Driver Attention System and precision LiDAR map data to allow hands-free driving on more than 320,000 km of road in Canada and the U.S.
Super Cruise can be used while trailering, with specific calibrations, adding even more capability to the Silverado's trailering technology and capacity.
