Pickup trucks frequently adhere to the concept of "work hard, play hard" - they have just as much capability to handle back roads and trails as they do busy jobsites. For 2021 Toyota's pickup lineup is playing into that concept with a range of special editions and options.

Both the full-size Toyota Tundra and mid-size Tacoma will be available in models ranging from basic work trucks up to off-road and sport specialists. In addition, standard equipment will be available across the lineups to ensure that customers can benefit from plenty of functionality no matter what trim level they've selected.

The Tundra line will be powered exclusively by Toyota's 5.7-litre i-FORCE V8, which gives the truck a maximum payload of 1,730 pounds as well as towing capacity of 10,200 pounds. The truck is available in Double Cab and CrewMax four-door cab styles, and a variety of configurations.

For those truck buyers looking to get to the lake, up the mountain, or anywhere else challenging, the Tundra Trail Special Edition brings unique styling along with extra storage and convenience features. It is based on the SR5 Crew Max with an upgrade package that adds a larger fuel tank, front bucket seats with driver's power lumbar support, front centre console, tilt/telescoping steering wheel, three front cupholders, and an anti-theft system with alarm and engine immobilizer. The Trail is available in both two- and four-wheel-drive. Black exterior badging, black seating with tan stitching and all-weather floor liners are also included. Lockable bed storage includes an insulated section with a drain plug on the driver's side, providing a perfect on-the-go cooler.

Drivers looking for more comfort and a little mystery in their full-sized pickup can select the Tundra Nightshade edition; with blacked-out grille, door handles, wheels, exhaust tip and other features, the truck is based on the Limited model for added luxury.

The sporty TRD Pro model will be offered in a new color, the cosmic Lunar Rock - on both the Tundra and the Tacoma.

Tacoma adds new features

The Tacoma line comes in 33 different configurations for 2021, but offers more standard equipment across those offerings, such as dual zone auto air conditioning on all V6 models, upgraded audio that allows for premium Remote Services on TRD Sport and Off-Road, and a first-aid kit on SR5 models and higher.

Tacoma will also feature the Trail Special Edition, which shares a range of features with the Tundra model - including the driver's side cooler storage - but also adds its own touches, like a set of dark gray 16-inch TRD Off-Road wheels with Kevlar All-Terrain tires and a 120-volt power outlet in the bed.

The Nightshade edition will also be available on the Tacoma, with similar features to the Tundra.

All Tacoma models offer a variety of safety features as standard. Toyota Safety Sense P (TSS-P) includes a Pre-Collision System with Pedestrian Detection, High-Speed Dynamic Radar Cruise Control (DRCC), Lane Departure Alert and Automatic High Beams.
