Caterpillar Inc. has announced several officer moves including changes in responsibilities for three Executive Office members, new roles for two current vice presidents and the appointment of two new vice presidents. All changes are effective March 1.

Tom Pellette to become Senior Vice President of Caterpillar 

After four years as group president separately leading the Construction Industries and Energy & Transportation segments, Tom Pellette has elected to return to San Diego, California for family reasons. Pellette will serve as president of Solar Turbines, a wholly owned subsidiary of Caterpillar and a global leader in the design, manufacture and service of gas turbine systems and compressors for the oil and gas and power generation industries. He previously spent more than 20 years in the division. Pellette will also serve as strategic advisor to the Caterpillar Executive Office. For more on Pellette's background, read his bio here.

Ramin Younessi to move to Group President of Construction Industries

Ramin Younessi, currently group president of Energy & Transportation, will transition to lead Construction Industries. Younessi, with more than 30 years of leadership inside and outside of Caterpillar, will now have responsibility of the company's Earthmoving, Excavation, Building Construction Products, China Operations and Global Construction & Infrastructure divisions, as well as Global Rental and Used Equipment Services. Billy Ainsworth named Group President of Energy & Transportation

Billy Ainsworth, current senior vice president of the Caterpillar Rail Division and CEO of Progress Rail, will now become the group president of the Energy & Transportation segment. Since 2017, Ainsworth has served as strategic advisor to the Caterpillar Executive Office in addition to his responsibilities for the Rail Division.

"Billy's customer focus, entrepreneurial background and deep aftermarket experience will continue to benefit the Energy & Transportation business," said Umpleby.

To better serve our customers, Caterpillar is separating the current Global Power Solutions Divisions into two new industry focused divisions: Oil, Gas and Marine Division and Electric Power Division. These two new divisions will be led by the following Caterpillar vice presidents:

Joe Creed will lead new Oil, Gas and Marine Division

Joe Creed, current vice president of Caterpillar's Finance Services Division, will become the new vice president of the Oil, Gas and Marine Division. He also most recently served as interim Chief Financial Officer for the company. Prior to his leadership in Caterpillar's finance functions, Creed worked in the company's engine and machine businesses. Click here to learn more about Creed.

Pablo Koziner will lead new Electric Power Division

Pablo Koziner, current vice president of Caterpillar and president of Solar Turbines, will become the new vice president of the Electric Power Division. He has nearly 20 years of experience in various roles around the world, the last six as a vice president. Koziner's full bio is here.

Marty Haycraft named Vice President of Caterpillar Rail Division

Caterpillar's board of directors has appointed Marty Haycraft to succeed Ainsworth as vice president of Caterpillar's Rail Division and CEO of Progress Rail. Haycraft is currently the president of Progress Rail's global operations where his primary responsibilities include overseeing the company's rolling stock and infrastructure businesses.

Haycraft began his professional career in 1990 with Wheel Corporation of America, where he worked as a production employee and gained experience on freight car wheel set production and freight car wheel set materials. He joined Progress Rail in 1993 when Corbin Railway Services purchased Steel Processing Services, later to become Progress Rail. He rose through the company, holding several operations, materials management and sales and marketing management positions. Haycraft attended the University of Louisville in Kentucky and finished his accounting degree at Phoenix University.

Kyle Epley named Vice President of Finance Services Division

The company's board of directors has also appointed Kyle Epley as vice president of the Finance Services Division. He currently serves as corporate controller where he has responsibility for business analysis, competitive analysis, economics, strategic planning and operating & execution model governance.

Epley joined Caterpillar in 1996 and has held a series of positions with growing responsibilities in accounting and finance, including global assignments. Epley has a bachelor's degree in accounting from Bradley University and is a certified public accountant.

Serious Labs developing VR training modules for IPAF PAL+ Advanced Operator Certification

At the International Powered Access Federation (IPAF) INNOVATE event in Chicago , Edmonton-based Serious Labs, a leader in virtual reality (VR) solutions for training and operations of heavy equipment such as cranes and aerial boom lifts, announced it is working in conjunction with IPAF to develop PAL+ VR training modules. PAL+ training, which can be completed for the first time on a VR simulator, tests existing Powered Access Licensed-Registration (PAL) Card holders at a more advanced level than required for the PAL Card operator license. Completion of the course will also renew a PAL Card holder's license for another five years. IPAF's PAL Cards are recognized worldwide as proof of the highest standard in Mobile Elevated Work Platform (MEWP) operator training.

Beginning in August 2019, construction business owner and social media influencer Missy Scherber will take the mic as the host of CONEXPO-CON/AGG Radio in a new series called "Contractor Conversations." This announcement comes on the heels of CONEXPO-CON/AGG Radio being named Best Construction Podcast by Construction Junkie for the second year in a row.

John Deere Construction & Forestry builds new Illinois training facility

John Deere recently completed the construction of a 7,500 square foot facility in Coal Valley, Illinois to better meet internal training demands, along with supporting customer visits and events. The building is part of the Construction & Forestry Training Campus and includes three classrooms that can be used separately for training purposes, or combined to hold over 250 people for larger events. In addition, there is nearly 4,000 square feet of covered canopy space for outdoor training and equipment walkarounds.

Dodge Data & Analytics report in collaboration with Viewpoint shows new era of data use emerging in construction

A new report released today by Dodge Data & Analytics, in collaboration with construction management software provider Viewpoint, a Trimble company, reveals a sea change in the way project data is gathered and analyzed across the construction industry – change that is poised to improve key project outcomes according to construction managers, specialty trade contractors and design/build firms surveyed. Tied to increased technology use and advancements, 64 percent of those who participated in the report said that their ability to gather and analyze data has improved or improved significantly.

Case dealer Ina Store supports Team Rubicon and Habitat for Humanity for Baldwin, Michigan Veterans’ Village

Case Construction Equipment dealer Ina Store supplied a compact track loader and grapple bucket to Team Rubicon for a land clearing project in Baldwin, Michigan. The site will be developed by Habitat for Humanity of Lake County Michigan into a new Veterans' Village development that provides 850-to-1,000-square-foot homes for qualified veterans, active military and spouses of those who have served. 

Talbert cuts ribbon on expanded North Carolina facility

Talbert Manufacturing hosted a ribbon cutting May 14, 2019, officially opening the 58,000-square-foot expansion of their Liberty, North Carolina, facility. The 120,000-square-foot Liberty Trailers LLC will manufacture Talbert's Tag-A-Long Series, Traveling Axle Series and Hydraulic Tail Series trailers. With the expansion, the manufacturer looks to increase dealer and customer support throughout North America with increased production capabilities and a support staff of 60 associates. Several Talbert representatives were on hand for the occasion, including President Andrew Tanner, Co-Owner Russ Stern, Vice President of Sales and Marketing Troy Geisler, Vice President of Operations Jim Hall and Vice President of Purchasing Jamie Myers.

Mack Trucks names Mack Masters champions

Mack Trucks put its superheroes of service to the test in the third installment of the Mack Masters Competition, a biennial event designed to evaluate participants' knowledge of Mack service systems and procedures. Team "#Rise For The Anthem" from Bruckner Truck Sales in Shreveport, Louisiana successfully completed several rounds of competition, including a comprehensive final challenge, to be crowned Mack Masters Champions. Members of team #Rise For The Anthem are Aaron Toomer, Justin Malone, Ted Pfister and Joey Wardrip.

Falcon Equipment opens Alberta branch

Highway of Heroes Tree Campaign continues to put down roots

Justin Trudeau, Prime Minister of Canada, recently joined Lawrence MacAulay, Minister of Veterans Affairs, to attend a Highway of Heroes Tree Campaign community event. There, Canadian Armed Forces member Corporal Nick Kerr, was presented with the Minister of Veterans Affairs Commendation for outstanding dedication to volunteer work with the Highway of Heroes Tree Campaign. The Prime Minister and Minister MacAulay also highlighted the 2019 Federal Budget proposal to provide $2.9 million through Veterans Affairs Canada over three years, to support the construction of the Highway of Heroes Living Tribute.

Volvo Group partners with NVIDIA on advanced AI for autonomous trucks

The Volvo Group has signed an agreement with NVIDIA to jointly develop the decision making system of autonomous commercial vehicles and machines. Utilizing NVIDIA's end-to-end artificial intelligence platform for training, simulation and in-vehicle computing, the resulting system is designed to safely handle fully autonomous driving on public roads and highways.  

LBX opens Customer Experience Center in Lexington, Kentucky

LBX held a Grand Opening for its new Customer Experience Center on June 13. The new facility is located on 25 acres in the Citation Business Park on Remington Way in Lexington, Kentucky. Company officials have said the operation will accommodate customer experience programs, including dealer training, product demonstrations and community events. The location is the company's second in Lexington, joining its headquarters and distribution centre.
