Enhancements add productivity and performance to Doosan DA30-5 ADT
Building on more than 40 years of articulated dump truck (ADT) experience, Doosan Infracore North America, LLC announces a series of enhancements to its DA30-5 ADT. A new version of the Doosan DA30-5 includes numerous updates to the truck's performance, operator comfort, controllability of the machine, ease of maintenance and fuel efficiency, reinforcing Doosan as an industry leader in the ADT market.
A significant development in the DA30-5 ADT - rated in the popular 30-metric-ton size class - is a new front suspension. The front suspension has been updated to a hydro-gas, self-leveling system to provide superior performance and greater shock absorption. Combined, these suspension system features allow for better driving comfort, especially when the truck is being driven while empty on a construction jobsite or at a mining operation. From a technical standpoint, the truck's hydro-gas cylinders are connected to pressure accumulators, and the accumulators and hydraulic system replace the previous shock absorbers and a rubber spring. The suspension of the updated DA30-5 includes a self-leveling feature and the ability to change the characteristics by adjusting the pressure.
Doosan redesigned its DA30-5 cab interior to provide better ergonomics and more operator comfort, taking into consideration input from current owners and operators. There are more than a dozen new features inside the completely new layout of the Doosan DA30-5 cab to enhance the driving experience. These include a new dashboard with a modified shape and a soft-touch automotive material, making it easier to clean, and a high-quality finish and appearance. Updates to the truck's vehicle control unit (VCU) include more robust hardware; better processors; more input channels for customized functions or further technology developments; and high-quality, automotive-style connectors.
The truck's new monitor in the cab has bigger indicators for easier reading. User-friendly graphics and icons can be controlled by buttons on the display panel, and the panel has now has capability to display multiple cameras views for increased visibility around the ADT. Operators can toggle through the menu to access additional information such as machine status, service and settings.
Additional new features of the DA30-5 cab include new air vents for the floor to improve air flow and circulation, a USB charger, a new bracket on the right-hand side for a CB radio, electrically adjustable mirrors and a new brake pedal, plus bigger space between pedals, more convenient compartment storage and a 12V/24V power socket.
Updates to the DA30-5 provide lower operating costs for owners as there are fewer service points with fewer oil types in the driveline and increased intervals for transmission oil changes. A new cab tilting system enables service technicians to lift and close the cab in just a few minutes. The truck is no longer built with rubber springs in the suspension, and there are only four rubber components in the entire front and rear suspension. A new air filter bracket makes it easier for operators and service technicians to access the engine compartment for simplified maintenance.
New DA30-5 safety features include a new control panel with a power cut off switch and a bright LED indication lamp which indicates when it is safe to switch off the power cutoff. In prior iterations of the DA30 ADT, the limited slip differential was operated manually. Other features include a new easy-to-use lever for retarder steering - a new, more precise brake system for increased sensitivity and performance - and an extra hand grip on the right-hand side. Out of the Doosan DA30-5 cab, a new all-round hand grip rail has been installed for improved safety for moving round the outside of the truck for maintenance and cleaning tasks.
A new, attractive paint scheme has been designed in the updated DA30-5 to better fit within the Doosan equipment lineup. The trucks' bottom structure is painted gray, like on excavators and wheel loaders. The gray color is painted on the, fenders, mudguards, hydraulic and diesel tank, articulation, rear frame and wheel hubs for a sharp finish.
The updated DA30-5 continues to be designed with an articulation hinge positioned behind the turning ring to provide equal weight distribution to the front axle even during maximum steer articulating. This, together with a unique free-swinging rear tandem bogie, ensures equal distribution of weight to each wheel and allows permanent 6-wheel contact and drive for equal power distribution and excellent performance on difficult terrain. The forward turning point, the tandem bogie and the truck's sloping rear frame results in exceptional rough and soft terrain capabilities and avoids the need for electronic aids such as traction control.
Doosan promotes its trucks as being among the most fuel efficient in the industry. This is accomplished with the combination of features including the Scania diesel engine and a ZF transmission, improving the transfer of power from the engine to the wheels for outstanding traction. When this is coupled with the enhanced rear differential system, which reduces engine rpm and further increases machine durability, customers are ensured an improved cost per ton carried with the Doosan DA30-5.
Powered by a 370-net-horsepower diesel engine, the updated DA30-5 meets Tier 4 emission regulations through the use of both Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) and Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) technologies, with an electronic brake system, one of four brake systems on the trucks. Doosan Tier 4-compliant ADTs do not need a diesel particulate filter (DPF) to meet the emission regulations in North America.
