JCB has unveiled the 45Z-1, a powerful, next-generation, zero-tailswing compact excavator with an operating weight of 9,866 lb (4,475 kg) and a transport weight of 9,700 lb (4,400kg), making it the largest rental-specification excavator on the market that can be towed without a commercial driver's license (subject to local regulations). The 45Z-1 shares the durable design proven on the larger machines in JCB's next-generation compact excavator range, with 100 percent steel bodywork and sturdy four-plate dipper construction. The dig end uses 100 percent graphite-impregnated bushing, leading to extended 500-hour greasing intervals
JCB has developed a range of ECO buckets with a redesigned profile for easier filling and improved material retention. Revised pin pick-up points also allow the machine to work with a number of competitive bucket brands, while optional hydraulic or manual quick hitches can be specified for faster attachment changeover.
The excavator features a new dig end, with a longer main boom and shorter dipper arm than the previous 8045 ZTS. This provides up to 13 feet 1inch (4,001 mm) dump height for easier truck and site dumper loading. The upgraded hydraulic system also delivers up to 8,532 lb (38 kN) bucket breakout force and dipper breakout of 4,945 lb (22 kN), boosting performance and productivity.
Operator Comfort and Control
JCB compact excavators deliver impressive levels of comfort for the driver, with reduced noise and vibration levels. A new display screen and control system with an automotive-style rotary controller allows easy access to a host of systems and information. The operator can set auxiliary hydraulic flows for two separate attachments, while the menu mode button switches the rotary controller between throttle modes, including a one-touch idle function and menu mode.
The 45Z-1 is also offered with a new membrane switch panel to control auxiliary flow settings, working lights, beacon, wipers and JCB's 2Go additional hydraulic activation safety system. The compact machine has nine power modes available, including ECO, and, for the first time, an H+ heavy-digging mode. The machine can also be ordered ready for tilt-rotator installation from the factory with a programmable third auxiliary function.
Another innovation is the inclusion of an optional Safe Lift feature, complete with an integral Lift Overload warning system. An industry first at this weight, Safe Lift incorporates a green-amber-red graphic in the new monitor panel, with an audible warning that sounds if the machine approaches overload.
Productivity has been further enhanced with the adoption of an electro-hydraulic dozer control lever, with up to two buttons in the head to control two-speed tracking and dozer float. The sturdy, ergonomically designed lever has a large diameter and improved resistance to deliver improved response and more accurate control on rough ground. Separate buttons in the control-lever head activate the machines' standard "auto kick-down" two-speed tracking.
Low Cost of Ownership
The 45Z-1 is powered by a Tier-4-Final engine from JCB by Kohler, producing 48hp (36kW) and 166ft lb (225Nm) of torque. Access to the engine has been improved thanks to wide-opening steel hoods at the rear and to the side of the machine. The cab also features a removable floor section requiring no tools to access major hydraulic components.
A fully bushed dig end with 500-hour greasing intervals also reduces downtime and daily maintenance, cutting total cost of ownership for the customer and increasing productivity.
Other Key features include:
• Graphite bushes for 500-hour greasing intervals
• Robust H-frame undercarriage construction
• Customizable digital instrumentation
• Powerful Tier-4-Final JCB Diesel by Kohler engine
• Programmable auxiliary hydraulic flow settings
As one of the latest models in the R2-Series excavator lineup, the Bobcat® E88 delivers durability, performance and quality for more productivity. Technically speaking, it's a compact machine, but it brings big performance with its redesigned engine and optimized lift performance, plus undercarriage and counterweight improvements. All these enhancements make this excavator one of the highest-performing models in its size class. With impressive over-the-side lift capacity, you can dig with greater confidence over the side of the machine. Put it to the test against similar models from other manufacturers. You'll see that the E88 can outwork the competition.
