Ram adds commercial division targeted at small business

Chrysler Group LLC is creating a new commercial-truck division within its Ram truck brand to target fleet buyers and small businesses.

The Ram Commercial division will have its own dedicated staff in all areas of the company that develop vehicles including product planning and design, Fred Diaz, president of the Ram truck brand, told reporters during an embargoed briefing on Sept. 17 in Auburn Hills, Mich., where Chrysler is based, Bloomberg News reported.

Diaz said the company would fill the “commercial end of the business with all the products that all commercial buyers and fleet buyers out there will be able to consider Ram. He declined to name specific future models, Bloomberg said.

Chrysler, which is 58% owned by Italian automaker Fiat SpA, is expected soon to introduce Fiat-built vans under the Ram brand, Bloomberg said. At the start of October, the company introduced the 2013 Ram 2500 and 3500 Heavy Duty pickups, along with the new Ram 3500, 4500 and 5500 Chassis cab work trucks at the State Fair of Texas in Dallas.
