Chicago Pneumatic Introduces Walk-Behind Trowels Featuring QuickStop

Chicago Pneumatic Construction Equipment has launched a new walk-behind power trowel line with three main models ideal for most concrete finishing applications. This includes the STG244 (24-inch blade diameter) edger, a standard robust workhorse with the STG375 (37-inch blade) and a high-capacity STG479 (47-inch blade) model for larger areas.

The STG line is designed with the operator in mind. This includes user-friendly features and focuses on providing maximum safety for the operator. All versions feature QuickStop for safety, foldable low-vibration handles and a maintenance stand.

With QuickStop, the blade rotation stops immediately with a zero-degree handle spin. Although blade-rotation is stopped, QuickStop does not shut off the engine when the trigger is released. Instead, the feature allows the speed to be adjusted without damaging the belt and clutch.

User-friendly features include a solid steel palm trigger and foldable low-vibration handles. Unique to STG power trowels is a maintenance stand for easy access. With the stand, operators can change the blade or other service tasks quick and easily by using the maintenance stand to easily access key components.

There are now two options for pitch adjustment with twist pitch (TP) and quick pitch (QP). The STG244 TP edger comes standard as a twist pitch, but the STG375 and STG479 offers both TP and QP versions. The TP models offer a more accurate adjustment, while the QP versions are equipped with cog pitch for a fast pitch setting. The pitch adjustment is also designed with the end user in mind, located close to the operator’s hand.

The STG244 features a Honda GX 120 3.5 horsepower (hp) engine and has an operating weight of 132 pounds. The blade speed on the STG244 TP is 40 to 115 rpm. The STG375 has a Honda GX 160 4.8 hp engine on both the TP and QP models. The trowel weighs 192 pounds (TP version) and 194 pounds (QP version) with a blade speed of 40 to 115 rpm. Lastly, the STG479 is equipped with a Honda GX 270 8 hp engine. It weighs 227 pounds (TP) and 229 pounds (QP) with a blade speed of 40 to 115 rpm.

“On conventional trowels equipped with centrifugal clutch, the handle can continue its rotation up to 540 degrees and really spin out of control, but that will not happen with the QuickStop on our new STG lineup,” said Darrell Engle, product manager of light compaction and concrete at CP. “These power trowels—from the edger up to our largest model—will provide users complete efficiency and first-class results.”
