Monday

State of the Industry
NAPA Chairman Kurt Bechthold will provide an executive update on the asphalt pavement industry's achievements and challenges. Keying off NAPA's Strategic Plan for 2012, Bechthold will outline the association's goals and plans for the future.

Legislative Update: Washington and Your Bottom Line
Transportation is an economic issue, not a political one, and highway bills have traditionally enjoyed bipartisan support in Congress. But in recent years gridlock in Congress has meant short-term extension after short-term extension and worsening pavement conditions. House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee member Rep. Reid Ribble (R Wis.), a former roofing contractor, has been invited to give his perspective on the legislative climate. Janet F. Kavinoky of Americans for Transportation Mobility and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce will provide insight as to why it is no longer business as usual when it comes to enacting highway bills.

Tuesday

Chicago's Magnificent Green Mile
North Michigan Avenue, one of the most famous commercial districts in the world, is the unlikely setting for a technologically bold paving project. Chicago DOT recently repaved the 12-block stretch known as the Magnificent Mile with an economical, extremely durable mix - a stone-matrix asphalt (SMA) made with reclaimed asphalt pavement (RAP), recycled asphalt shingles (RAS), and ground tire rubber (GTR). Just using RAP in an SMA mix is unusual; incorporating tear-off shingles and rubber made this project unique. The creative reuse of these materials reduced costs dramatically, and asphalt's speed of construction allowed the project to be completed on an aggressive schedule.

The Magnificent Green Mile is located just outside the meeting venue, giving you the chance to learn about the project and see the pavement for yourself.

Who Should Attend
The NAPA Midyear Meeting is designed to benefit all senior and middle management personnel from asphalt pavement companies. Consultants, agency officials, and academics will also benefit. You do not need to be a NAPA member in order to attend.
