JCB adds two models to new generation compact equipment line

JCB, the UK-based  heavy equipment manufacturer, added two more models to its line of New Generation skid steer and compact track loaders in 2011. The all-new 225 wheeled skid steer and the 225T compact track loader join the previous seven New Generation models launched in November 2010. The nine current New Generation machines are the first to be designed, engineered and manufactured at JCB's North American headquarters in Savannah,Ga.  

John Patterson, deputy chairman of JCB, explained the importance of building upon the success of the New Generation product line.  

“Developing and producing this line in Savannah has allowed us to understand the unique needs of our North American customers —customers who are responsible for 60 percent of the total demand for skid steer and compact track loaders,” Patterson said..“However,we're not only manufacturing machines that appeal to the North American market. By including features that every operator can appreciate, we've been able to produce machines with worldwide appeal.”  

While the seven models introduced last November — the 260, 280, 300 and 330 wheeled skid steers and 260T, 300T, 320T compact track loaders — were vertical lift machines, the new 225 and 225T feature radial lift. This means that maximum reach is achieved in the middle of the machine's reach cycle rather than at its highest point. Both the 225 and 225T have rated operating capacities (ROC)of 2,250 lbs. These two new models complete the large platform segment of JCB's New Generation range. After JCB has introduced all 18 new machines, the company will offer a complete range of wheeled and tracked machines, both radial and vertical lift, ranging from 1,300 lbs to 3,500 lbs.  

The 225 and 225T feature all of the same outstanding features introduced with the seven other New Generation skid steer and track loader models, including: a tilting cab with increased service access; multifunction joysticks; hydraulic quick hitch; an isolated cab that is sealed and pressurized with reduced noise levels; a heated air-suspension seat with adjustable armrests; O-ring face seals for all hydraulic connections; and compatibility with a new range of more than 30 types of JCB attachments.  

Due to these many enhanced features, the company says their New Generation machines offer an even wider range of benefits than the company's previous skid steer and compact track loader product line.  

Visibility.
Both the vertical and radial lift machines showcase JCB's unique “PowerBoom ” design, which uses a single arm,rather than the conventional twin arm skid steer design. The JCB models do not require a torque tube across the back of the machine, giving operators an unobstructed rear view and better all around visibility for greater safety and confidence around the jobsite. To further enhance visibility JCB has eliminated the mesh screen on the cab machines and replaced it with laminated glass.  

Serviceability.
With O-ring face seal hydraulic fittings and a simplified design resulting in 38 percent fewer parts,JCB ‟s New Generation machines are easier to service. Technicians will appreciate the improved access to the power train and hydraulic components made possible by the machine's tilting cab.The new models also feature a rear service door for easy access to the engine and daily checkpoints, a top-opening hood with a hinged radiator for improved engine access.  

Operator comfort.
The New Generation machines have a larger entry door and a 17-percent larger cab than previous generation models and 33-percent larger than competitive brand machines. JCB has also introduced multifunction joystick controls and an optional heated air-suspension seat with adjustable armrests, making these machines incredibly comfortable to operate. Redesigned control panels have been relocated from the lower console to the panels at the top of the cab to be within the operator's line of sight.   Other available creature comforts include cup holders, MP3 player compartment with charging outlet, optional stereo package and an electronic throttle. Operators will also enjoy a quieter cab with noise levels at a very low 76dBa, an 85-percent improvement.  

Versatility and performance.
Switching to any of the machine's impressive 30 attachment families is a snap thanks to a standard universal mechanical hitch or an optional hydraulic quick hitch. Parallel lift and 2-speed options make it easy to maneuver around the job site and complete more tasks in less time, and with the introduction of an optional Smooth Ride System (SRS) transporting materials over rough terrain has been made easier.  

Safety.
As in previous models, the New Generation skid steer and compact track loaders feature a unique left side entry door that allows the operator to enter and exit the machine clear of the att achment and loader arm, making it the industry's safest skid steer, according to JCB. 

Value.
Owning a JCB skid steer or tracked loader costs less due to increased productivity and serviceability. Overall fuel consumption has been reduced for an estimated annual savings of more than $3,000 versus competitive machines (based on an off-road diesel price of $2.90).
