The new 40-ton Terex TA400 articulated truck delivers high torque, high horsepower, high capacity and the highest top speed in its class, the company states.
At home on sites ranging from sand and gravel quarries to coal mines and road construction projects, the TA400 boasts a payload capacity of 41.9 tons (38 t) and a heaped capacity of 30.3 cubic yards (23.3 cubic metres). It has a maximum torque of 1,548 ft-lb (1,350 Nm) at 2,100 rpm, and with six forward gears and one reverse in addition to a two-speed drop box, the TA400 can travel up to 37.3 mph (60 km/h).
“We have rigorously tested this truck under the most extreme conditions around the world,” says Terex product manager, Ken Emmett. “It has proven through all the trials to keep our customers’ productivity high, fuel consumption low and cycle times short. The TA400 is designed to offer Terex customers the best cost-to-value ratio in the industry.”
Standard features include a Tier 3-compliant, fuel-efficient 450-hp (336 kW) diesel engine, maximum rim-pull and gradeability for negotiating inclines, as well as a large body capacity with low body weight to maximize load size and retention.
All three axles on the Terex TA400 are locked in permanent all-wheel drive (6x6), and these articulated trucks are equipped with oil-cooled, wet disc brakes on all six wheels. Retarding is supplied by a standard engine brake and transmission retarder to ensure maximum control in loaded, downhill hauls.
The new Terex TA400 comes equipped with state-of-the-art computerized systems that communicate to each other through a CAN-bus system which helps ensure that the truck is running at peak efficiency. With this communication system, truck data can be transmitted via satellite to almost any location on Earth.
Unique to this new Terex truck is a four-bar trailing arm suspension system that allows operators to travel faster and more comfortably on difficult terrain.
The TA400 is designed to give operators total comfort and control with updated interior aesthetics in anthracite gray, reduced interior cab noise levels for an improved working environment, new control positions and steering wheel for ease of operation, improved air conditioning capabilities for better temperature control, a high-quality sound system and new mirrors to provide excellent visibility.
Maintenance is simple on the TA400. From the electric opening hood to ground level access to the major components, Terex says that every consideration has been given to the maintenance of the TA400. Mechanics can easily complete under-hood service thanks to the wide platforms on both sides of the engine.
