Sandvik moves to single brand for mobile crushers and screens and launches first new screen under Sandvik name

Sandvik has chosen to unify its mobile crusher and screen range under a single brand, signified by new model nomenclature and machine colours. The world-wide launch was held at Sandvik’s global customer event at their Swadlincote factory in the U.K. Over a thousand visitors attended from all corners of the globe.

The principal reason for the event was to formally mark the rebranding of Extec and Fintec. In the spring of 2007 Sandvik acquired the two manufacturers of mobile crushing and screening equipment, Extec Screens and Crushers Ltd, and Fintec Crushing and Screening Ltd. As leaders in the design and manufacture of mobile crushing and screening equipment, they complement Sandvik’s customer offering with mid-size and light equipment, thereby positioning Sandvik as a market leading supplier in a rapidly growing industry.

The logic of these acquisitions does provide opportunities, as new customer segments have been opened for all parties. “Sandvik brings its global network with access to quarry and mining customers. Extec and Fintec bring access to contractor customers and a competitive product line of tracked mobile crushers and screens,” said Mobile Screening and Crushing Managing Director Steve Powell. “Extec and Fintec also benefit from Sandvik’s global resources, and technical know-how, as Sandvik brings advanced crusher and screener product technology combined with excellent process knowledge.” Duncan McGregor, Vice President Construction Product Line, echoes Powell’s sentiments that the biggest customer advantages of bringing Fintec and Extec together under Sandvik are its global presence, in particular, worldwide distribution and improved aftermarket support. He explains that mobile crushing and screening equipment has come a long way in the last 10 years: “What used to be impossible to achieve with mobile equipment is now possible. The contractor segment, complete with its own special business logic, has become a major part of the materials processing business all over the world; as the contractor business follows a business logic, very well matched by a distribution strategy, we need to understand how to serve this segment in the best possible way.” McGregor believes Sandvik has the right background to address the needs of this particular customer segment. “The traditional business where Sandvik is particularly well aligned consists of customers who are not contractors; they own and sell minerals, whether for construction materials or for what they are worth in terms of content. This is a new area of development for the acquired businesses, but quite normal for the heavier range from Sandvik for example.

“Going to one brand increases customer awareness of Sandvik’s full offering. Branding and segment strategy helps Sandvik to improve and broaden the services to a variety of customers by using the wider breadth of our organization, but the Extec and Fintec products are still there, and the features that made them world leaders are incorporated into the new product offering.” The event was not limited solely to mobile crushing and screening, as a major purpose was to highlight exactly what Sandvik offers to all its customers. Anders Kjelberg, Vice President of Business Development commented that “Sandvik offers a full range encompassing drill rigs, tools, breakers, static plants that possess direct applications to companies of all sizes that are involved in quarrying, construction, demolition, recycling, surface mining. These products also possess attributes that are suited to the contractor segment. The mobile screening and crushing division now allows our customers to enjoy a one-stop shop, so that we can truly be the solutions partner of choice for all our customers, world-wide.” There was also a quarrying demonstration of a QJ340 (C-12+) tracked jaw crusher, feeding a QH330 (F1080) tracked cone crusher, and then feeding directly into a QA450 (S-7) tracked triple deck screener. A demolition and recycling demonstration featured a variety of feeds showing the QE330 (F640) tracked scalper, QA330 (F542) double deck tracked screen, and a QI430 (F1440) tracked impact crusher feeding a QA440 (S-6) tracked doublescreen.

The occasion was also used for the world-wide launch of a brand new product, the heavy-duty tracked QE440 scalping screen. It is the first new mobile screen to be launched under the Sandvik name and was developed for producers of aggregates in order to deal with operating requirements which traditional screening solutions are unable to adequately address.
