Field proven rack and pinion drill with high pullback

The rack and pinion DD-440T is the only field proven track mounted maxi rig style horizontal directional drill that offers 440,000 pounds (200 tonnes) of thrust/ pullback, according to its manufacturer, American Augers.

The DD-440T’s standard design incorporates the Quiet Pak noise reduction system, which reduces the Caterpillar C-15 540 HP (292 kW) diesel engine decibel output to 88 d(B)A at a 7 meter range. The carriage system is engineered with a two pinion drive with an adjustable force limiter, and a maximum carriage speed of 120 feet (36 m) per minute. The rotary drive includes a three pinion and gear drive that permits 60,000 ft-lbs (80,000 Nm) of maximum rotary torque, a rear mounted mud swivel that provides up to 1,000 gallons per minute of mud flow, a 6 5/8 inch slip spindle, and a 4 inch fluid course. Other standard features include: 10° - 18° drill angle, triple jaw wrenches with a 12 inch (305 mm) separation, wrenches that travel the full length of the thrust frame, 154,000 ft-lbs (209,400 Nm) of maximum breakout torque, 101,700 ft-lbs (138,312 Nm) of maximum makeup torque, H-Beam type front and rear safety hold down system with struts, removable wrenches for lighter transport weight, and the ability to utilize Range II drill pipe.
