With a range of engine choices and options, the 2009 Dodge Ram line will have greater fuel economy, more horsepower and higher torque than previous years. Aerodynamics of the 2009 Rams have also been improved, and performance has increased. The Dodge Ram 1500 Hybrid, available after 2009, will be the latest addition to Chrysler’s fuel-efficient lineup, joining clean diesel HEMI and flex-fuel vehicles. Combining a Multi-displacement System and two-mode hybrid technology to greatly improve fuel economy, the 5.7-litre HEMI Hybrid V-8 will offer performance and efficiency with up to 40-percent fuel economy improvement in the city and 25-percent overall. The two-mode hybrid system is also currently being introduced in the company’s 2009 Dodge Durango HEMI Hybrid and 2009 Chrysler Aspen HEMI Hybrid Engines available for 2009 Ram 1500 models include a new 390-horsepower 5.7-litre HEMI, and flex-fuel 4.7-litre and 3.7-litre gasoline engines. 2009 Dodge Ram heavy-duty models (with current 2008 design) are available with either the 5.7-litre HEMI or a 6.7-litre Cummins turbodiesel engine, which already achieves 2010 NOx emission standards. The inline six-cylinder engine uses a diesel particulate filter (DPF) to virtually eliminate particulate matter emissions and an adsorber catalyst to reduce oxides of nitrogen by as much as 90 percent. The 5.7-litre HEMI V-8 provides 390 hp (291 kW) and 407 lb.-ft. (552 Nm) of torque, with an estimated improvement of four-percent in fuel economy. The 4.7-litre V-8 delivers 310 hp (231 kW) and 330 lb.-ft. (447 Nm) of torque, shares some of the HEMI engine’s combustion technology with twin spark plugs per cylinder, and is compatible with E85 fuel. Standard on all-new 2009 Dodge Ram two-wheel-drive regular cab and Quad Cab models is a 3.7-litre Magnum V-6 engine, generating 215 hp (160 kW) and 235 lb.-ft. (319 Nm) of torque.
