LeTourneau hybrid loader with LINCS II control
LeTourneau’s new L-1150 is specifically designed to load 150- to 200-ton (136- to 181-metric-ton) haul trucks, which represent a significant percentage of the overall haul truck population. With its 1,205-hp (898-kW) engine and a standard 25-cubic-yard (19.1-cubic-metre) bucket, this machine is the first of a new platform series for LeTourneau’s loaders. The L-1150 features a redesigned modern cab, offering improved ergonomics and greater visibility for the operator. Other new features include a modular, liquid-cooled, IGBT converter package and a unique SR electric drive system providing true all-wheel-drive. In addition, the L-1150 comes equipped with LeTourneau Technologies’ new LINCS II control system. This provides full digital control and monitoring to the operator using a newly designed, cutting edge microprocessor. Real-time data includes bucket height and angle, net bucket load, cumulative truck load, elapsed time per loading cycle, and total tonnage. This data is automatically stored for future retrieval and analysis. Information is conveyed to the driver via the easy-to-read, touch screen display which is suitable for operation in the brightest light.
The L-1150 can be ordered with a choice of Cummins or Detroit Diesel engines and uses up to 40 percent less fuel than the equivalent capacity mechanical drive loader offering. LeTourneau’s exclusive use of diesel-electric drives enables its machines to consume considerably less fuel than conventional mechanical drive loaders. In some cases, fuel savings of up to $100 per hour have been achieved over similar sized machines. The hybrid drive system, found on all LeTourneau machines, recovers what would be wasted energy and returns it back into the power unit or stores it in capacitors for future use, thus reducing the engine fuel requirements. Adding to the machine’s versatility is the fact that the L-1150 uses a readily available tire size (50/65-51).
