To meet forthcoming diesel engine emission requirements and provide customers with the latest fuel efficient power systems available, BSP International Foundations (BSP), one of the world’s leading manufacturers of hydraulic piling hammers and related equipment, has announced an all New Hydro Pack (HP) 260 model to be fitted with the new Caterpillar C9.3 ACERT industrial engine.

This new generation Hydro Pack fitted with a C9.3 diesel engine is designed to comply with the US EPA Tier 4 Final, Stage IV emission requirements. The low smoke 9.3 litre, six-cylinder turbocharged and after-cooled diesel engine delivers power ratings from 224kW up to 298kW at between 1800rpm and 2200rpm and has been designed to deliver customer value to end users.

The engine is equipped with a fully integrated clean emission module, which includes a diesel oxidation catalyst, diesel particulate filter and selective catalytic reduction which is designed to reduce nitrous oxide emission. The engine is designed to be used with Utra Low Sulfur Diesel (ULSD) and is B20 Bio Diesel compatible when desired or required. (Ref CAT Machine Fluid recommendations SEBU6250).

A combination of the high pressure common rail fuel system and new Adblue after-treatment technology is said to improve fuel consumption by up to 4% over Cat’s earlier Tier 4 Interim/Stage IIIB compliant version of the C9.3 diesel engine.

Ray Ransome, BSP’s senior sales manager, says: “Air pollution is very much to the fore of people’s minds today and we all need do something to help reduce it, so to meet the future demand of contractors working in our cities, and local council legislation, we are delighted to offer our customers this new industrial engine in our Hydro Pack power unit range. Installing this Tier 4 Final, Stage IV engine continues our tradition of providing quality products with built-in durability, reliability, low cost of ownership and fuel efficiency. BSP is the first OEM in the UK to equip its power packs with this new engine.”

The BSP range of Hydro Packs, have been developed with the benefit of many years’ experience in manufacturing hydraulic piling hammers and customer comments. It was inevitable that changes in emission laws would develop engine design radically. As a result, the diesel powered, open circuit hydraulic system range using electronically controlled variable axial piston pumps has the capability to optimise the performance of the company’s extensive range of hammers and will now include the new 150 and 260 Hydro Pack as part of its development.

Other features of the New Hydro Pack range include a redesigned robust, welded steel skid frame with bund for containment of spillages, lockable access doors, tank mounted hydraulic filter with sensor for service indication while the hydraulic oil temperature is controlled by an independent air blast cooler. Control panel functions include, engine rpm, emergency stop, system load test and fault diagnosis using the latest CAN BUS technology.

For countries not requiring Tier 4 Final, Stage IV engines BSP still has Tier3, Stage IIIA Engines available.
