Western Star will hold their “Get Tough Challenge” in the Bronze Lot.

World of Concrete will offer attendees several opportunities to put their operating skills to the test and see equipment in action.

On the Bronze Lot, the "Western Star Trucks Get Tough Challenge" puts drivers behind the wheel to experience a Western Star truck for themselves. The eighth annual ride-and-drive event takes contestants along a short course in their choice of Western Star truck and scores them on a 50-point scale.

Western Star will feature several of its vocational trucks and product options in the Bronze Lot, including: a 4700SB dump truck equipped with a Detroit DD13 engine and Allison 4500 Rugged Duty Series (RDS) transmission; a 4700SF mixer with a Detroit DD13 engine and Allison 4700 RDS transmission; and a 4900SF with a Detroit DD15 engine and Allison 4700 RDS transmission.

To compete in the challenge, participants must have a current CDL and can register in the Bronze Lot.

For the past 15 years, John Deere has sponsored the "Operator Challenge" in conjunction with World of Concrete, and they are doing it again in 2018. There will be several Deere machines to give operators a chance to get a feel for the controls, responsiveness and power. Machines in the challenge include: a four-wheel-drive loader, a backhoe, an excavator and skid-steer loaders. Operators need to perform certain tasks to score points, avoid penalties and beat the clock. Daily prizes are awarded to the top scoring operator for each machine in the competition. Registration is on site during the outdoor area show hours.

Also outdoors, MB Crusher will demonstrate crushing and screening attachments on both an excavator and a skid loader. Attendees will see how these jaw crushers can crush tough material, such as granite and concrete, both reinforced and non-reinforced, and how trommel screens can sift various materials.
