Saw Seal Machine Could Change Concrete Paving

The Saw Seal Machine (base model SSM900) saws, cleans and seals multiple joints simultaneously in new concrete pavement, with blade only contact. The company considers that this technology will completely redefine methods of concrete paving construction with some of the benefits including early entry sawing, a precise joint, and over 50-percent labour savings.

The blade-only contact allows the earliest entry to control cracking as the concrete cures. Traditional methods are labour intensive and limited to entry requiring the concrete to cure to support the weight of the machine, thus increasing the risk of uncontrolled cracking. A HEPA filtration vacuum system collects dust, removing the toxic airborne silica, and storing it in a 55-gallon drum. A compressed-air nozzle further cleans and dries the joint. The sealant is applied automatically in the final stage with the Crafco EZ Series II 1500 melter, based on the joint dimensions and travel speed of the machine.
