Bobcat adds cutting versatility to excavators with launch of flail mowers

Bobcat has introduced two new flail mowers for Bobcat excavators. These efficient attachments provide maximum safety, performance and uptime protection in mowing or land clearing applications. When it comes to tough cutting jobs like cutting tall strands of thick grass, brush, vines and small trees, the Bobcat flail mower is ideal for use in ditches, hillsides, utility right-of-ways, riverbanks and hillsides upkeep as well as for maintenance of parks and recreational trails. The long reach and maneuverability of the excavator will allow the flail mower to cut vegetation in hard-to-reach places like hillsides and riverbanks.

The Bobcat flail mowers are available in two sizes. The 30-inch flail mower is designed for use with Bobcat E32 and E35 excavators with hydraulic flows ranging from 12- to 20.7-gpm. The 40-inch model can be used with the E42, E45, E50 and E55 excavators with hydraulic flows ranging from 14- to 24.1-gpm.

Safety

Safety has not been overlooked in the flail mower design. Side safety chains help deflect and contain debris within the housing that could be thrown during the operation. A rotor brake will stop the mower from full speed in seven seconds or less when the flail mower hydraulics are deactivated.

Performance

The flail mowers’ triple-knife design helps deliver smooth cutting action necessary to rip through hard and soft woods, vines, grass and brush. The compact deck allows the flail mower to manage varying ground contours, maintaining surface contact for efficient cutting.  Equipped with a flail mower, Bobcat excavator operators can cut in hard-to-reach places up to 21.6 feet tall when using an E55 configured with an extendable arm option.

The direct drive motor excels in aggressive cutting applications because it provides an ideal balance between torque and rpm for optimal performance. Additionally, an operator’s work is enhanced with the exclusive pin and hook design of the Bobcat X-Change mounting system delivers faster and easier attachment changes.

Uptime protection

Bobcat knows uptime protection is very important during the mowing season. Reversible flails provide bi-directional rotation by switching the hydraulic hoses at the drive motor, which increases overall flail life.  A rubber torsion disc also absorbs stress forces encountered during operation. Heavy duty flanges on both sides of the rotor protect the drive train from dust and debris. These flanges also prevent wire from damaging the drive train mechanism.
