Terex breaks new ground with introduction of TLB840 Backhoe Loader

Engineered to excel in digging, reaching, lifting and loading applications, the new Terex® TLB840 backhoe loader is built to work for the operator. With more than 50 years of engineering expertise incorporated into its design, the TLB840 — the ninth generation of backhoe loaders offered by Terex — boasts a 88-hp Perkins engine and is powered by an optional 4-speed servo power syncro transmission with automatic shifting, delivering fuel efficiency and high tractive effort.

“The TLB840 is our most versatile, innovative and efficient backhoe loader,” says Tom Reith, product manager, Terex Construction Americas. “We surveyed customers about what features and functionality they wanted in a backhoe loader, and we designed this machine around what our operators asked for, including: a spacious, ergonomic cab, extended dig depth and reach capabilities with increased power and maneuverability. This new generation of Terex® backhoe loader is engineered to perform.”

The new TLB840 has a curved boom design that offers operators greater clearance to reach over obstacles and the ability to load closer into trucks for greater productivity. With a dig depth of 14′9″ (extended to 18′1″) and a reach up of 18′9″ (extended 21′11″), the Terex® TLB840 is designed with a new slew system that provides high torque for easier backfilling and slewing uphill. The “deep dig” extendable dipper stick is new on the TLB840. With an optional thumb attachment, operators are able to clamp objects and materials between the bucket and dipper with ease.

For high-productivity trenching, this new backhoe loaders brags 7,958 lbf dipper tearout and 11,892 lbf bucket tearout.

With a loading height of 11′3″, the Terex® TLB840 can easily load high-sided trucks, and with a 10,485 lbf bucket breakout force, a loader lift capacity of 7,291 lbf and bucket capacity of 1.32 yd3, this backhoe loader offers high-capacity production. With “return to dig” selectable at the press of a button, the TLB840 has reduced cycle times and quick loading capability. The hydro mechanical self-leveling feature on the TLB840 enables the operator to avoid spillage and allows for load retention at full height. The hydraulic unload button controls the loader’s lift speed, as well as boosts the machine’s pushing performance.

The ergonomic design of the TLB840 cab is built for closer interaction between the operator and the machine, increasing productivity and comfort. Mechanical controls come standard on the TLB840; excavator-style pilot controls are optional. The opening rear quarter windows offer operators improved ventilation and right-angle visibility when trenching. The full-depth rear window on the TLB840 incorporates an up-and-over opening feature for increased ventilation.

The new TLB840 also incorporates increased floor space, upgraded heating and high performance A/C, in addition to a mechanical suspension seat with lumbar support, adjustable steering wheel and excellent visibility for outstanding operator comfort and productivity during long hours on the job.

The chassis on the new TLB840 is built for safe and reliable operation. With an operating weight of 15,895 lbs, Terex has fitted the TLB840 with a new cast hard nose counterweight to give improved weight distribution and full component protection. A new, larger steering cylinder, housed on the front axle, offers superior handling and reduced steering effort. Outboard wet disc brakes on the new TLB840 allow for shorter stopping distance and increased braking torque.

All service points on the TLB840 are conveniently positioned for ground level access, and the fully tilting hood minimizes downtime by simplifying daily maintenance checks.
